I have a Galaxy S3 and the screen is black. The lights still light up the volume still works, I can hear the swipe to unlock the phone but all I get is a black screen. Does anyone have any ideas on what is wrong and/or how to fix it?

Re: Help!

I would try a soft reset first Patricia by doing this:

1. Press and hold the Power button on the device for about 10 to 20 seconds. Eventually, the screen should turn off. You will then be able to turn the device back on and resume normal operation

Fingers crossed this works for you, if not there are other options.

Re: Help!

Try doing a battery pull. Leave the battery out for several minutes before trying again. That probably won't help, though.

What, if anything, were you doing or happened to the phone before this occurred. None of us work for Samsung or Sprint, so you don't need to try to hide anything.

Were you trying to root? Did you drop the phone, or get it wet? Install new software, or a new battery, or SD card, or.....? Anything at all unusual before this occurred?

Re: Help!

The phone was dropped and landed face down and when i picked it up and tried to use all i had was a black screen... besides that nothing out of the ordinary i believe there was an update that was trying to be installed at the time

Re: Help!

That's not good. Best case, I would suspect a connector got knocked loose in the fall, which would be a pretty simple repair. Worst case would be physical damage to the LED display, which would be pretty expensive to replace. I don't think there's going to be anything you can do to self repair, unless you're experience with small electronics repair.

Wishing you the best of luck, if this happened after the phone was dropped I would agree with meyerweb. A connector could have come loose or there is some sort of damage to the display, in any event I would take it to a professional to be looked at and fingers crossed it is an easy repair. My best guess would be a connector came loose.
