So I have a rooted Thunderbolt and a Titanium backup so I'm basically safe but I still have a terrible issue.

I have rejected the OTA update at least 3 times now but I was on my phone and returned to the home screen and went to hit another application just as the updater popped and so I hit OK instead of what I wanted. It immediately started the shutdown on the phone. On reboot it started to "install" and then failed leaving me with the "error" triangle with exclamation point and the phone just sits there. If I pull the battery and reboot the phone it loads up and then within 60 seconds the whole thing starts over again.

I need to know what process to kill or what file to try and find and delete. I have tried rebooting without the SD card but now I fear that this process has become part of my firmware. I need my phone for the next couple of days and after that I had plans to try a new gingerbread ROM anyway.

Anyone know how to kill this update??

When this happened to me I did the power and volume down button thing, hit volume down until factory reset was highlighted . It reset everything but my phone was perfectly usable.

*edit* oh &^%%()*&, was walking through the steps to try to help and just started a process...... please pray for me, i have no idea what .img was on my sd card...

**UPDATE**
The update failed, phone is still normal and i have deleted the PG05IMG.zip. *whew*

I was able to use the Clockwork Mod to reload a backup from way back in March when I first rooted the phone. Stupid me didn't have a more current backup. My March backup has almost nothing configured as far as email/calendar and such, not to mention my programs.

But i have a phone that rings again.... small victory.

Now that the business day is over it is time to focus and reload today's backup and try to fix the issue. Does anyone know the name of the file I need to find and kill?? Or process??

Is this PG05IMG.zip the one??? Where do I find it. I only get about 60 seconds before my phone tries to reboot and install the update all over again.

Another update. I fixed it. After restoring today's backup and letting it reboot it predictably did the same thing as this morning. So when it croaked I pulled the battery and booted into the Clockwork Mod menu. I did the clear cache only option and then restarted the phone.

Once fully booted up I got the message to install the update like I did before this whole mess started. I clicked cancel and the phone is fine. I know will set out to clean up useless apps and make a good backup of my phone with all my customized settings and such.

Hope this helps someone.

Good stuff man. Glad you got it.
