Help! Keyboard Gone On Lock Screen: Can't Log In!

I just updated Swiftkey, and then the back softkey stopped working, so I rebooted. Now there is no keyboard on my lock screen, and just a gray rectangle with a microphone icon in the middle. So I can't type my password to log in! And I tried saying my password, but it is not reacting at all to anything I say.

Rebooted into safe mode, but that didn't help.

Any ideas short of factory restore?

Also, I can't even get to recovery mode. When I select recovery from the boot loader menu, I just get an android on its back with exclamation mark inside a red triangle and the message "no command".

OK. Figured out how to get into recovery from the "no command". So if I have to, I can factory restore.

and I don't have that recovery mode
You don't know how to get into Recovery mode on your phone?
Or you do, but the phone won't boot into Recovery mode? (Which would be strange if the phone is booting normally.)
What model/carrier/firmware?

I have this same problem with my droid-and I don't have that recovery mode, help?

Welcome to Android Central! Do you have a Nexus 7? This subforum is for the Nexus 7, and if that's what you have, follow this guide to get to Recovery Mode: http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...e-nexus-7-2012-2013-cache-partition-wipe.html

If you have a different device, tell us what it is. Different devices have different ways of accessing Recovery, and not all of devices have access to Recovery in the first place.

BTW, I figured out what caused this. I had all other keyboards disabled, and when Swiftkey updates, it reverts to Swiftkey being disabled. So I had no enabled keyboard, and thus couldn't log in. So don't disable all other keyboards even if you only use Swiftkey.

Thanks for following up with your solution and investigation.

Why did you have the other keyboards disabled? It really only matters which one is the default (doesn't it)?

Because of my general tendency to disable everything I can that I don't use.

I never figured anything else out, although you might try plugging in a USB keyboard and see if you can type your password.
