Alrighty then

Last night I rooted my phone successfully. Read that ROM manager was a good app to download. During lunch today I was messing with ROM manager and saw a Google ROM. I ran it and the phone rebooted. After it rebooted, all of my contacts, gmail, google maps, etc were gone. After I did a reboot it deleted all of my apps except a select few. After I installed the ROM I was also unable to access the market place, which is why I hit factory reset. After factory reset the phone should ask me if I have a Google account, but it didn't. It just takes me to my main screen with the little android guy telling me how to operate my phone. Does anyone have any suggestions? or is my phone a nice paper weight now?

There is no such thing as a Google ROM. You downloaded and installed Google Apps, you prolly downloaded the newest one which is for Gingerbread which is why its not working.

Are you still running stock Froyo 2.2.1? If so, you need to download the 20101114 HDPI Google Apps the flash that and everything will be fine again.

You could just go find another ROM drag that zip to your SD card via USB (That is if you are not stuck on the android learn to use your phone tutorial). Then reboot and hold X down for Clockwork Recovery Mod(Installed when you started ROM Manager) then wipe data/cache and install, should bring all things back up. Or restore a nandroid backup if you made one before trying to install. I would hope you did a backup first.

Some suggestions -
Miui
Project Elite

Used both of the above for my D1 before retirement. I recommend them both Miui is kind of Iphone looking and Project Elite is more standard android.

If you cannot get past the droid learning to use your phone you can try RSDLite Flashing, the 2.2 files for the droid can be found at
Droid Files

Best of luck! Let me know how it turns out!
