Help me please!!!!!!!!!!!

hi sorry about being a noob and all but im really confused. i have a htc desire s v2.3 updated OTA, but i want to upgrade to ICS. when i go (on my phone) to check for updates it says that there are none. HTC released an update for china(CRC) and a RUU package (htcdev.com), but im guessing that the china package will be in chinese. now for my quesions.

1. what is a CRC
2. what is a RUU (explain in detail)
3. is the RUU package the actual update?
4. if i do install the RUU, will my phone be rooted?
5. how do i rollback to gingerbread if it does not work

i know that most of these answers are on this site somewhere but i have spent 3 hours already on here and all i got was one massive headache! please help me understand.

ok sorry to kill your buzz but i understand a lot now from HTC Desire S Ice Cream Sandwich Update Now Available but all those people give mixed reviews. can someone give an unbiased review of ICS on the desire s?
