This isn't as easy of a decision as it may look on paper...
I know my Verizon numbers aren't what most could expect. I manage a large Share Everything plan full of family members, and adding a smartphone is $40/month and I'd add 2GB of data, which after an employee 20% discount, is another $8/month. Plus the current members aren't using all their data anyway - so I'm sure I could use 3GB+ easily. Figure in a couple bucks in taxes etc. $50.
I'm currently trying out the Republic Wireless $10/month plan, and find that I DO need data when away from wireless. I've had this Moto X from them since Wednesday, and already run into a few situation where I needed to bust out the Nexus 5 I'm also testing for data purposes.
Which brings me to why I can't consider the Nexus 5 100 minute plan. I started this on 11/5 and was out of minutes by 11/15. That's a deal breaker for me. I need to be able to use the phone. Wonder how hard it is to use data calling on this plan....
I prefer the Moto X, but the Republic Wireless version just feels a little "gimped" compared to the VZW version my wife has. Especially after seeing how fast the VZW MX got 4.4.
My next steps are:
Figure out how to do data calling on the Nexus 5 for the remainder of my test month (12/5). - Test how this works.
After the Nexus 5 test month is over, switch to RW 3G plan for the remainder of the test month. See if having 3G when needed is enough to satisfy.
It's crazy that with the concessions I'll have to make and the hoops I'm jumping through - I'll only be able to save between $5-10/month over using Verizon. If they would let me activate a perfectly good Nexus phone on their LTE only network (no need for CDMA) this would be a no -brainer to stay with them and go month to month.
*sigh* First World Problems.
