When I first had my s5 a fully charged battery would last 2 days but now its around half a day, I only make 3-4 calls maybe 2-3 txts and spend around 1/2 an hour on the internet. I have only got 23 apps that I have installed myself and a countless number that Samsung keeps sending. I am thinking of resetting to factory settings but would I loose the info on my sim card and what else would I have to do before I reset the phone.

It would help to see some battery stats. Charge up to 100%, then let it drain to 20-30% with normal usage, without charging in between. Then show us:

1. The main Settings>Battery screen.
2. The fullscreen battery graph screen (which shows Awake time and Cell Signal Strength).
3. The Screen category (to see total Screen On time).
4. The Cell Standby category, if present (to see Time Without Signal).

do not do a factory reset..

something is polling the internet, a social app, a weather app, a news app.

If you will simply turn off the internet, you can stop all of those errant apps from ruining your battery life.

I do it automatically with MacroDroid.

You can do it manually as a test to see if you would like to use MacroDroid.

Simply turn off WiFi and Data every time you lock the screen. I guarantee you that your battery life will be immensely improved.

I get 3 days per charge almost all the time, 2 days at the worst.

I would actually leave the RAM alone. Clearing the RAM will just make the system automatically open the same apps or some different apps to occupy RAM, since that's what Android is designed to do.

Op, let us know if you find anything causing the problem. We'll need to see some screen shots of your battery usage to help further - follow the instructions provided by B Diddy.

I have read this statement over and over, and I am thoroughly convinced that it is not true as to being detrimental to battery life.

My phone is set up to close all apps and turn the internet off each time the screen is locked.
When the screen is unlocked, the internet is activated again with only a 2 second delay.

Those apps are not restarted until I need them again... I do not want anything running in the background that is not necessary to the basic operation of the phone/device.

I easily get 3 days usage per charge cycle and my phone is not crippled as some are want to think. It does everything I ask of it, when I ask it to do it.

Just because an app used to be in memory does not mean that it should stay there.

I see what you're saying, but what you're doing is a little different from what most others try to do--which is to kill apps whenever they close them, but while they are still using the phone. If they're still using the phone, those apps will try to open again, which is where the battery consumption occurs, and if this cycle goes on (again, while the phone is being actively used), then it might cause some significant drain. What you're doing is killing the apps whenever you put the phone to sleep. Once the phone is asleep, I don't think those apps will try to open again until you wake the phone again.

I never mess with killing any app while the phone is being used.
The recently used list sometimes gets really long, two or three pages long at times.

I just let MacroDroid clean house and turn the internet off, and my battery coasts along with very negligible drain while the phone is asleep.

I really like having it automated.
