Help needed - S3 failed update.

Downloaded Kies and everything went fine until the download to the phone.

I am at the "firmware update progress" screen on my laptop and the Downloading screen
on the phone "Do not turn off target"

The instructions say that this will take minutes, but it has been stuck at 0% for over an hour.

Despite the instructions NOT to disconnect the cable.....

What do I need to do ?

Same exact thing happened to me. Do a battery pull and then power it off and disconnect from the computer. Wait 30 seconds, then put the battery back in and power it on. I'd also power it back off again, wait a little bit, turn it back on, and then reconnect.

Ouch - been there, done that today. If you're stuck at 0%, my experience was that disconnecting the cable and doing a battery pull on the S3 resulted in it rebooting just fine. However, after having that happen twice, on the 3rd attempt I got to 21% before it froze, and THEN it would not reboot. Had to spend half my day driving around to the AT&T store, then the AT&T regional support center, who restored my phone. I'm currently over on the XDA forum, reading about Odin and downloading the firmware file (its already been posted.) Members over there assure me my experience with Odin will be MUCH nicer than Kies...
