Help needed with Odin

I modified the stock recovery when I got GB EI22, because I wanted to have a reliable and functioning GPS. My understanding was that it was necessary to install a custom recovery in order to install the GPS fix file. The phone has been working fine as far as the GPS goes, but I have had data connectivity issues both before and after the recovery modification. I wanted to take my phone to a Sprint store to have this checked out.

My concern is that the Sprint techs might try to install the EL30 update and it might not work since I have an AC Syndicate recovery file on the phone. I downloaded the EL30 Stock Tar w/ modem file and then opened up Odin3 v1.85. I selected the PDA button and then selected the EL30 Stock Tar file and selected auto reboot. The phone was in download mode and I hit the start button. Approximately 30 seconds later the process finished, but it indicated the process had failed. There was no error message at any point. After the attempt at loading the EL30 Stock Tar file, the phone remained in download mode. I had to pull the battery out and put it back in to be able to turn the phone on.

On the following page (http://forums.androidcentral.com/ep...68-how-factory-restore-fix-bricked-phone.html) there is a video that shows how to use Odin to apply the EL30 stock file. The difference between the instructions on the page and the instructions in the video is that the video instructions show downloading the EL30 .bin file whereas the instructions on the page indicate to download the .tar file.

I'd like to get my phone back on stock recovery and updated to EL30 so that I can take it in to a Sprint store and get the data connectivity issues resolved.

The video for EL30.bin is the modem only. The full .tar file is everything. Follow the written instructions.

If the EL30 process isn't working out for you go threw the little extra work and restore back to Froyo EC05 and then update to EI22 or EL30 from there. As long as your device is on an official stock OS without root it doesn't matter which on it is for service and repair.

For some users, the earlier version of ODIN (1.61) is the ONLY one that will work w/ their specific set-up........try dl'ing + see if that will allow you to complete your wipe/restore to EL30 stock firmware.

Ok, so EL30 failed. EC05 has also failed. I now don't have a functioning phone. Something isn't working. I successfully used Odin 1.85 when I put the custom recovery on the phone. What do I do now in order to get my phone working?

When the EC05 failed, I was left with a pink screen. I took the battery out and put it back in again. When I turn the phone off, all I see is a picture of a phone with dashed lines going to a computer.

Have you tried running the Odin package doing my suggestion without the battery in place?

If you can't get your phone into download mode or Odin to recognize the device, then try removing your battery and plug your phone in and boot into download mode/connect to Odin WITHOUT your battery in the phone.

I finally got it to work.

For some reason, the very first time I tried flashing EL30, it failed, but left everything intact on the phone. Based on EL30 failing and based on the suggestion in this thread, I tried flashing EC05. This failed and completely wiped everything off the phone and left it unusable. With the phone unusable, I downloaded EC05 again and tried to flash it again, with the same result. I then tried flashing EL30 with the same result.

I put the USB cable in a different port and flashed EL30 and it worked. I also used Odin 1.61. I don't know if it was using a different port or using an older version of Odin, but I got it to work. There really wasn't this much difficulty the first time I used Odin and flashed the custom recovery. I still don't know why Odin was failing with every firmware install that I was attempting.

Most of the time Odin problem stem from connection.. Could be switching the port was the trick.
