Android Central Question

I have duplicate chrome, contacts, settings, and snapchat in Apps/setings/Apps on my Galaxy S7. They just appeared recently and the duplicate only gives option to force stop.and the icon has an orange double circle in the very bottom right corner. The duplicates don't seem to be using any data - 0 bites How can I get rid if them?

Welcome to Android Central! I would've said they're progressive web apps, but I'm not sure how that'd work with Chrome, Contacts, and Settings. If you go to a website (like Snapchat) using Chrome, then tap Menu>Settings>Add to Home Screen, it may create an actual app icon on the homescreen, the App Drawer, and the Settings>Apps menu. This isn't an actual app, but is essentially a "web wrapper" that makes the mobile site look and act like a standalone app. Do you recall doing that for Snapchat?

Welcome to the forums. Have you enabled the Dual Messenger feature? That orange icon probably means that those "cloned" apps are set for a different account.

settingsd is probably the settings daemon, which is the app that Settings is really just a UI for. You shouldn't be able to see it unless the phone is rooted.

The thread is long derelict, with no response from the questioner to any of the replies. Perhaps all is now understood or fixed.

"You are being rooted"? Do you mean that somehow, someone has gotten hold of the phone, rooted it, modified it somehow, then gave it back without the user's knowledge?

I have looked through the system apps and there are doubles and more of certain n apps. Unsure what they do or are for.

I dont have snapchat

How does that happen
