Hello all...my phone died. I was on the phone, hung up, went back to my home screen and the phone was frozen. Tried to turn it off/on, didn't work. Tried to close all apps although nothing was running, didn't work. The inactive/black scree which usually comes on after 2 minutes did...and now the phone is dead. I can't turn it on, get any activity up, etc. It is as if the battery died. I had 25% power left! I plugged in the charger and no life or activity whatsoever.

HELP! PLEASE! Is there a hard re-set/re-boot I can do? Anything? Thank you in advance.

FYI...I did not buy the phone from VZW...it was BYOD...only 2 years old. No problems to date. Thanks.

Let it charge on a wall outlet for at least 6 hours. Then try booting into Recovery and wipe the cache partition: https://www.t-mobile.com/support/de...axy-s8/wipe-cache-partition-samsung-galaxy-s8

Thank you!!! I plugged it in on the wall charger, and on it's own, after about 15 minutes, it came on to the re-boot screen where you have choices on how to re-boot...I chose the normal re-boot rather than the others which delete data, info, etc.

So, how do you do the hard re-set-re-boot? Power and Bixby buttons at the same time for 30 seconds? Power and volume button at the same time for 30 seconds? Thanks!

It booted up fine. All normal. Thanks again B. Diddy!!!

That's good to hear! The factory reset option from the Recovery menu would use the same steps as those mentioned in my previous link -- except that once you're in the Recovery menu, you would choose Wipe Data there instead of Wipe Cache Partition.

Thanks again. I don't really understand what you're saying, LOL...However, when I reference a hard re-set/re-boot -- I did not mean wiping the data. Sorry about that, I misspoke. I meant a re-boot or re-set, without wiping data.

So, I see from your link how to get to the recovery menu...so here's my question...when you follow that process...press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key...

When the Android logo is displayed, you release all keys...AND THEN..."Installing system update" will show for somewhere around 30 - 60 seconds...before it goes to the recovery menu...

So does this do an automatic system update? What exactly is a system update? Is that an OS update? Security update?

Thanks again.

Hi, shouldn't be saying system update going into recovery, that usually happens when you get a software update and it updates .

I've seen some other posts mentioning that "Installing System Updates" message -- it's not really installing anything, so just wait for the Recovery menu to appear.

Thanks guys! Reason I asked about installing updates -- is because I am intentionally NOT installing updates, LOL. I've been getting a software update message/notice for a long time now (with a Security update of June 2020)...and after asking around, I've decided not to take the update. Maybe that's a bad mistake -- but everything works now, all basic functions work, etc. -- and being a tech *****, if I do the update, and things change, I can't fix it. I've heard too many stories of this not working after an update, or that changing after an update, etc.

Thanks again guys!!!
