I finally got rid of ESFE, because it has become a bloated pig. I'm trying out different file managers for my phone and tried out Solid Explorer, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get it to recognize my PC. ESFE scanned and recognized my PC instantly, but SE does not. There is a pop up screen where you can enter the IP address and other info yourself, and I did that, but it still won't connect.

Any help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks :)

Is the PC firewall is blocking a port, that could be a factor.

Yeah, I found that out yesterday. I went into the firewall settings and checked the box to allow devices, but that didn't help anything. So I turned off the firewall and was able to connect. I also have to have my phone and my computer connected to the same wifi source. We have two routers in the house - one is in my room and the other is upstairs.

Well after using Solid for a couple days I'm not too thrilled with it. It's a nice app, but it's not as easy to use as ES was. For example, it took me too long to figure out how to connect to my PC, when ES was a breeze in this regard. Also, I've been trying to figure out how to save one image to the shared folder on my PC and haven't been able to. It was super easy with ES File Explorer: all you had to do was tap the image (or document) and you had a list pop up of commands, and in that list was "Copy to..."

Be nice if SE was that simple to use.

I think I finally found a decent one - File Manager by ASUS. Connecting to my PC was a piece of cake and it has the "Copy to" functionality in the fly-out menu (when selecting images and/or documents). Really nice interface, easy to get around and no intrusive ads.

Whenever I try to access the PC share folder on my computer File Manager crashes. Hmm....sent in a crash report but so far no response. I did find a website that has all the versions of ES File Explorer on it. Downloaded 3.2.5.5, which I believe is the last good version before the takeover. Working great so far :)

If you do install this older version just make sure auto-update of apps is turned off in Google Play Store (for it will show it's installed and try to update it). And also turn off the auto-update checkbox in the ES settings.
