How did you get S-OFF on the phone in the first place? Since you don't know how to get into ClockworkMod, then I assume you did not make a backup before you attempted to apply the update, did you?

From a powered off state, hold down the Volume Down Key and then press and hold the Power button until the white HBOOT screen pops up. On this screen you should see either S-ON or S-OFF. From that menu, use the Volume Up/Down keys to select the menu options. If you select RECOVERY, it should boot you into ClockworkMod.

ok....I got into RECOVERY....What now....and no, I didnt make a back-up....Im completely green to all of this!!!

OK, when you start the phone, does the update start automatically, or does it prompt you to apply the update by pressing Volume Up?

If it gives you a prompt, then do not apply the update and try to let the phone boot normally.

The reason the update is failing is because you have ClockworkMod installed instead of the original HTC Recovery. So from the ClockworkMod Recovery screen, select reboot system now.

Say I jus start the phone from power off....it boots up fine and goes to the home screen like normal. About maybe 60 seconds after, it automaticly shuts itself off, then reboots, and trys to install the update....halfway thru the update, it stops and shows an exclamation point inside of a triangle above the little blue android guy. Then thats it....it just freezes on that screen.

So if I take the battery out and do the volume & power button thing, I still have S-OFF and I went into Recovery and the rebooted from there.....it did the same thing....rebooted, went to home screen, shut itself off, rebooted and froze. Do I have to reset to factory settings now?

Yes, boot back into ClockworkMod Recovery and try this first:

wipe cache partition

advanced -> Wipe Dalvik Cache

++++Go Back++++

reboot system now

If it still does that, then boot back into ClockworkMod Recovery once more and then try:

Wipe Data/Factory Reset

reboot system now

Yes, one of the menu options in ClockworkMod is Backup and Restore. You should do that first.

ClockworkMod is also how you would install a new, rooted ROM to your phone. I would check out the Droid Incredible 2 Forum on XDA Developers for complete instructions. Here is a link to a fully rooted Gingerbread ROM that is based on the OTA update, so this will provide you with root and give you the GB ROM you wanted:

[ROM] RMK Ginger Sense r1: *Official* 2.18.605.4 (Rooted/Deodexed/Debloat) [7/11/11] - xda-developers

The beauty about flashing a new custom ROM is that they are already rooted, so you just download a ROM zip file to your SD card and the install the zip file from ClockworkMod and you are good to go.

Again, learning to use SEARCH on XDA Developers will help you find all of the information you need.

Yes, download that Rom to your computer. Then take your SD card out of your phone. Put the card into a card reader and install the card into your computer. Put the downloader Rom on the root of the card (just copy it to the card and don't drop it into a folder). Then reincert the SD card into your phone. The hold down you volume down button and press power. Let go of the power and the the volume button. The hboot will open. A small process will happen. Select no. Then use the volume down button to go down and highlight 'recovery' and press the power button. White screen displays HTC and then recovery opens.
In recovery the power is like the enter button. Scroll with volume controllable. Wipe the data. Wipe the cache. Go to advanced. Wipe davalk. Wipe battery. Click back button. Then scroll to select zip from SD card. The choose the Rom you put on the SD card. Once clockwork installs Rom click back and select reboot. In 5 minutes your setting up your phone.

The download link on the XDA site isnt downloading anything...I got a bank page and no download progress bar at the bottom.

Which browser are you using? Are you talking about the Download ROM link in the middle of the page that I posted or the posted link itself?

Im using internet explorer. And the Download ROM link in the middle of the XDA page. I click on the Download button and it opens a blank window and asks if I want to Run or Save the file, I chose Run, and then it doesnt really do anything. Any idea why??

Yes it is a zip file, so you need to choose Save. Then once it is downloaded to your PC, you copy it to the SD card in your phone. That zip file contains the rooted GB ROM that you will install using ClockworkMod.
