Help! Screen blacks out on speaker

When I am using the phone on speaker the screen blacks out and there is no way to turn it on again unless I press the power button, which disconnects the call. I took off the Protective film because I read that that might affect the sensor, so why is this happening?! Did I get a defective unit?

Pushing the power button on mine doesnt disconnect the call on speakerphone.
I just tested that.

How long is the delay for the screen to go off while on speaker? I just tried it sitting at my desk and listened to my answering machine at home for about 30 seconds or so and the screen didn't black - so I'm not sure if mine does or not, or what setting I might have enabled to either delay or avoid the screen blacking out while on speaker.

But still, it seems like this feature would be a big negative. When the call is done, you would then have to go through two actions to end the call- press the power button to light the screen, then press the end call bar. If you're on speaker phone in the car, (which is where I would often use it) this is a stupid potential distraction.

I suppose you could set the phone so that the power button ended the call - therefore just one distracting touch. But then what if you were on a regular speaker call at home or office and wanted to simply multi task by sending a text, or looking something up on the web?
