Hi all,

I know this is the wrong thing to ask but I'm thinking of switching to the iPhone 11 pro max from S20 Ultra because of work. My whole team works on iPhone, MacBook etc. and its hard reading docs, files because of ios. The last iPhone I had was the 4 and wanted to see if anyone knew what the major things I'd miss from my Samsung. I live in South Africa and our operators, stores here don't allow returning phones unless there is an out of box failure within 7 days of purchase so don't have the option of taking the phone and returning it. Thank you in advance

Sell the phone? take the little loss you'll have to because of selling and switch to iPhone? Or look for trades. You will have to see what's the best way to sell or trade in South Africa.

What help are you looking for in the forums?

Thanks for your response. Sorry, I was quite vague. My question was meant to ask what benefits (other then being able to read and work on what my team is sending me) is there to moving over to the iphone? I've always had Samsung's and don't know iphones very well. Is the phone as capable as the Ultra? What features would I miss most on the Ultra?

Personally I use both iOS and Android devices and love iOS just like I love Android. But this is a Samsung forum so majority will be pro Samsung

Only you can decide if it's good or not and for most users Android or iOS should work fine. If you are more into customization and want more control over your phone sure Android enables this to certain extent.

May be your work and friends are using and sharing stuff on iCloud, airdrop, iMessage and all those are Apple specific features that work well with Apple ecosystem.

And yes iPhone is as capable as Ultra in the sense it performs well just like Ultra, has great battery life, great camera, great ecosystem and million other things just like Ultra. Question is what you use Ultra for? Depending on that we can at least try to say if it may work for you or not. Are you worried of a specific thing you do with Ultra will be available on iPhone or not?

Thanks for the above.

Yes, they use icloud to store everything. They utilise imessage a lot amongst each other and have to duplicate chats on whatsapp to keep me in the loop.

I work from my phone and don't use a laptop or desktop. All emails from them are in numbers, pages etc. and I can't access these worksheets as I haven't found anything that I can install on my phone to read them. Customization isn't a very big thing. I use a couple widgets but read most of them can be used on the first page of an iPhone.

I see you are a newer user here - welcome to Android Central! I can understand why you'd feel the need to switch over to Apple, especially if your coworkers use iOS as a platform.

As far as missing anything from your S20 Ultra - do you like personalizing your phone with launchers and that type of thing? You will lose that kind of customization when you move to iOS.

However, the iPhone 11 line has a wonderful camera, works well, as has the benefits of FaceTime and iMessage. One of my good friends got an iPhone 11 around Christmastime and loves it!

It will be a change, to be sure, but I'm sure it will work out! Keep us posted on what happens!

If you're heavily into the Google ecosystem, at least you can still install most if not all of those apps on the iPhone and they'll work just as well (e.g., using Google Photos to auto-backup all of your photos as you take them, or using Google Drive in addition to iCloud).

Thanks for the above.

I do also use both platforms, once you get your toes wet and experience both platforms you will miss one or the other if you choose one .

Based on this I don't think you'll miss anything from Ultra, though you said this is your only device so if you are using dex you won't have something similar. But iPhone should work for what you want to do just fine and work well with your friends. Though personally not a fan of platform lock in and like to only use services which work on my any platform even when using an iPhone.

May be you can nudge your friends to use something which works on all platforms
But I understand it's hard to change people's habits.

Counter question: why not see if you can get an older iPhone, like a 6S or 7, pay for it outright (I found a 7 on Straight Talk for about $120). Use that as the work phone, get a SIM from ST, and you can keep the Android?

Running with two phones definitely is a plus if you can pull it off ...keep work separate from your personal...iPhone 11 Por Max would be my choice to recommend if you can do it financially...battery is solid and will handle daily work and home things excellent..

The 4 was your last?? Quite a while ago.

In my opinion, if there is an app on iOS for every app you use on Android, you should experience a difference running on an iPhone. The only difference is the OS UI and the difference of things you can and cannot do between the two. But once you see your app icon and click on it... everything else should be the same.

Never used an iPad?? Maybe you can get away with keeping your Android by using an iPad for work. If you need to be more mobile, maybe an iPad Mini and tether it to your Samsung through a hotspot connection.
