Help to create homescreen folder for PDFs?

I want to have a folder on my homescreen which contains frequently referenced PDF files for work. I know how to move homescreen icons on top of another but I don't know how to get anything to the homescreen except applications.

Download file manager HD, go to widgets, add file manager HD, it will then let you choose a file and put its shortcut on the home screen....
