I just moved from das bamf 1.5 beta to 1.6.3 and I'm getting some horrible battery drain. I went from 100% to 88% in one hour while only sending ~10 texts. I checked battery manager in spare parts, and my running percentage was 97.7% while my screen on was around 50%. Also, my WiFi was on for that hour, and the WiFi on time and WiFi usage were both at 100% since unplugged.

Any suggestions on how to figure out what app is not letting my phone sleep? Or if I should reset and reflash? And the WiFi doesn't seem right to me, like it shouldn't be active for 100% of the time.

Thanks in advance.

Did you wipe data/cache? Wipe battery stats in toolkit after charging to 100%, then let it drain until it's almost dead. How often do you bump charge?

Get System Panel and set it to monitor usage for a day or so to pinpoint any irregularities.

You have to remember since you've just moved to this version, it does take some time for your phone to adjust.

I wiped the cache and dalvik cache twice before I flashed it. I wiped the battery stats after my first full charge with this Rom. Do you suggest I do it again after a bump charge? I've never done a full bump charge. I'll try the system monitor too.

Thank you.

And this is my third or fourth day with this Rom, if that makes any difference.

I've actually noticed the opposite on mine so far...installed 1.6.3 from stock OS with the new radio as well. Battery life has been great, especially when in rest/standby. Only losing 1-2% per hour at night while sleeping.

My wifi shows 100% as well for what its worth...I think that's correct.

You could try a different kernel, the 1 you have now might not play well with your phone.

Bump charging really does work for many people. I do it at least once a week.

What were your average usage times with 1.5 beta? I don't think it had the new radio, and that has been the cause of problems for some.

And losing 12% in an hour with moderate use isn't really that bad, especially coming from a full charge.

The other kernel ppl seem to like is imoseyons lean kernel.
You need to flash the new radio in hboot its not included in the rom.

+1 to this, I just did all of this today, with some help from the people that you are talking to. I don't have anything concrete to stand on as far as battery life goes, since it has only been about half a day since I finished tweaking everything. From what I can tell, it is stable and fast, with great battery life. I really think that the new radio helped with the BAMF ROM.

So I'm an idiot. I flashed the radio from 1.5 in CWR thinking it was the same as hboot. Downloading the new radio and flashing now... Must new kernels be flashed in hboot too? Sorry for being such a noob :(

Okay. Thank you everyone. The new radio seems to have already improved my battery life, I'm not watching the meter drop just because I'm online. I'll try the new kernel later.

I didn't update my kernel, just the radio...and my battery is running excellent right now. May want to give it a day or two to see how your device does.

I used the latest one, which was linked to on the OP of this thread. 0 reboots since flashing it on Thursday.

Thanks for the information. I've been hesitant to flash the radio since I've heard of numerous problems regarding rebooting, or that the stock radio has been better with reception. I'll give it a shot! Thanks again!

Here's a stupid question: does the ROM and/or kernel affect battery life when accessing 4G or is that purely a radio issue? I get virtually 0 battery drain while on airplane mode with BAMF 1.6.2 and leanKernel extreme, but as soon as I turn 4G on, it slips at about 6-10% an hour while idle.

Should I bother trying new ROMs/kernels or what? Kind of at a loss at this point.

I am too are using BAMF 1.6.3 (NOT REMIX) and have horrible battery life.

So to fix this issue, what's the concession here guys: flash kernel only OR flash both kernel and Radio?

BTW, do you have the information on:
- Kernel only Flashing? I assume it's similar like ROM flashing --> just put the file and reboot the phone?
- Which kernel fix the battery drain that works with BAMD 1.6.3? immoyean?

Flash the updated froyo radio in hboot - this might get you better signal reception and increased battery life, or might result in random reboots, in which case you will need to revert to the stock radio you are probably currently running.

As for kernels, you can try the battery-saver variety of imoseyon's, or really any froyo-sense kernels. Some might work well with your phone, others might drain battery at a similar rate to what you have now (i assume it's the bamf 447 kernel that you are using). Additionally, you can change your min/max frequency settings in the bamf toolkit to try to save on battery.

Kernels are flashed in clockwork mod recovery after you clear cache partition and dalvik cache, but do not wipe data for kernels.

If it is strictly 4g that is causing your battery drain i would assume it's the radio, and you could try flashing a different radio (see obligatory radio thread in forums). However, 4g can be a battery hog, and supposedly the handoff 3g to 4g causes drain on alot of phones as well.

Kernels can help you save battery as well. You can read about them and the use of set cpu or the bamf toolkit, governors, etc.

Alot of people use a screen off profile (set cpu) that does not allow the phone to use hardly any power while asleep, which in turn could save you juice while idling.

Anyway, all phones are different so if you want to fix your battery issues i would suggest experimenting with kernels, frequency settings, governors, and radios to see how your phone reacts.

As always, make nand backups, check md5s for radios and make sure you have enough battery to complete flashes.
