I love my S7 edge but my wife cracked her screen on her S7 so I'm going to give her my phone and upgrade. I love this size and I felt the S8 in Verizon was taller but then was also narrower. Is the S8 with the two different screen dimensions end up having the same overall screen footprint as the S7 edge? I have enough of a time reaching the entire screen on my edge without repositioning my hands. Both are awesome but the extra length of the plus has me thinking hard about a lot especially the position of the fingerprint scanner.

Have a play with it at bestbuy. You will love it. I never intended to upgrade but decided to because I felt this phone has all I need for the next two years. No bezels, HDMI out is back, BT 5.0, Iris scanner.

I loved them after playing with them at Verizon. Just not sure which one to go with. My phone was left at home on accident and I didn't have it with me to compare. Which size do you plan on going with?

If you have the extra $130 go with the plus. It's a no brainier.

It sounds like OP is more worried about the height of the phone.
I am not sure, but I don't think Verizon has the $130 markup for the S8+, only T-mobile.
Buying outright, it's like $120 more. For installment plan, it's like $5 more per month.

$5 more per month totals to $120.

For a reference for you, the s8plus is this same height approximate as the LG v20 I have some side-by-side comparisons with that phone and also with my 7 Edge and also with the cases for my Note 7

Can you link to the comparison? I'm very interested. I have to say that I got rid of my V20 because it felt so large for daily use in my personal case.

This is the width of the S8 compared to my S7 edge and a picture of the S7 edge next to the S8 and S8+. Like others, I would recommend playing with them at Best Buy or your carrier.

I had hard time holding both and couldn't set down because of the thing on the back of the 8plus

The V20 and 8+ are about the same height. Still prefer the V20 & current Note display ratio. About the only thing IMO the G6 and S8 display does well is wide screen content like the new Star Wars trailer. Nothing else is really optimized for the display.

I received the case I ordered for my new S8+ Wednesday. Yes, it's rather tall. The feel in hand is descent though. I went for the bigger battery. If my carrier never brings the Tab S3 onboard I'll need a bigger battery for tethering.

To the OP, if the reach to the top of your S7 Edge is an issue, then the Plus is going to be more of an issue... you'll have to reposition the phone and do the 'Samsung shimmy' if you're really gonna go at it one handed.

Playing with Androids lately after carrying an iPhone 6 for last year, with so many options for large screened phones for android why do developers not optimize the UI and put controls on bottom instead of top with so many apps. YouTube for example... iPhone has Home and subscription buttons at bottom of screen for easy reach on hand. On android.. on top?! Playing with YouTube on the S8+... what a pain to have them on too cause sliding wasn't working so fluidly.

Speaking of sliding, Chrome on the S8... you can't go back a page by sliding thumb over like on iPhone. Google apps that work better in iPhone... crazy.

So many apps like that smh.

I didn't realise the footprint of the S8 is smaller than the S7 Edge. Interesting.

What case did you go with?

I'll likely pre order tonight or tomorrow the S8+ in Midnight Black. I didn't dislike my 7 Plus and this is more screen in similar size footprint. And with $100 off at Best Buy plus VR it's basically a decision maker for myself.
