Help with Droid X screen shots

Screenshots are one thing the iphone does better. It's a convoluted, ten step process on the X. It shouldn't require much more than a button push, and it definitely shouldn't require an app. I don't even bother with it.

I tried the SDK install on Windows 7 64-bit and its just not worth the trouble. Too many issues/failures and not worth ~20 steps to get it done. It shouldn't require an app but it could be really successful for whoever came up with one.

Yea, I don't understand why there wouldn't be an app that with one touch takes a screenshot of your phones screen. Even my blackberry had an app that did it. Hopefully someone comes up with something cause the other way is too complicated.

Its really not that difficult.

I did the SDK install on WinXP and I didn't even have to do everything the article said to get it to work. I didn't have to install the usb driver. I guess Windows did it for me. Program works fine too.

All I do is plug in the phone, open the program, click screen capture, and save pic. Is it easier than hitting one button? No. But it doesn't take 20 minutes either.

Not being able to take screenshots was one of my major complaints when I switched from Windows Mobile to Android. I like being able to take them on the fly, without having to hook my phone up to my computer to do so.

The logic, for not doing it, is that a malicious screen capturing program could - unbeknownst to you - could collect information and upload it to a server whenever it wanted to. I'm not sure I buy into that logic, when every other OS out there is able to do this without any security risk whatsoever.

Actually, I gotta say that is very logical. The two root required screencap apps have little to no lag, and run in the background as is. If you were to install even one of these, without purposely monitoring them to see if they were accessing the data network you'd have no idea if the apps went rogue and were sending your information across the waves. Who knows?

I mean you'd know from the moment you install the app thanks to android saying "access data networks" or something like that, and it should be reason enough to red flag a simple screencap app. But there are some people out there man... they just don't think of their technology on the same level as we do. Then again those people probably don't care to take screenshots of their phone so /shrug idk :p

Just root and get shootme! It's relatively painless and comes with tons of other rooted goodness benefits!

Maybe I should have framed that differently. The explanation does sound logical, but how are the other OS's able to accomplish this without the concerns with breaches in security? I can understand how Apple, being a closed OS, can prevent this, but how about WM & BB?

Not sure. I'm not very familiar with the other OS'es. I guess I'm not so upset over it because the option is there, its just locked down a little bit. If the option was not there at all, then I'd be a bit more upset about it.

Although I can understand people not wanting to root to do something so simple. In that perspective it is a shame. Guess the best we can do is hope for some miracle app for non-root users :/

Yea i just dont know if rooting is for me lol, and i wouldnt do it just to be able to take screen shots. I would have to be convinced by seeing what else it could do and even then i dunno if i would want to do it. But even though some people say the sdk is not complicated im sure its not but when im not home i would like to be able to take a screenshot if i have too. Lets see what happens, eventually i think someone will come up with something.
