I was going to flash back to froyo and install the rooted gingerbread. I've downloaded RSS and the sbf to flash. I reboot in bootloader by RSS does not recognize my phone. I've tried numerous times. Any suggestions?

Quite a few people have given up on RSD Lite and just used sbf_flash and a Linux LiveCD (you can download from Homepage | Ubuntu). A LiveCD will let you boot into Linux without installing anything to your hard drive. If you're interested, I can also walk you through installing Linux onto a Virtual Machine and then passing your USB port through - much more fun if you want to learn about Linux :)

SBF Boot

Someone already created a Linux BootCD that is already setup to SBF the Droid X back to Froyo without windows.
And someone on this forum found a USB SBF boot.

Google or search this forum.

Good luck

OK I will look up the CD. I hope I don't bone something up since this is my first go at it

I was there too. Are you on windows 7? What version of rsd lite do you have? What is your connection type set to?

Yeah I used 4.9 on windows 7 64-bit. Also turned phone to pc mode and ran rsd as admin. Worked fine for me.

I got tired of fighting with rsd and went the linux cd route. Its very simple and straightforward.

I just used RSDLite 4.9 and the FroYo sbf 2 mins ago on my 2nd DX using Win7 64bit no issues.. just dont forget to dial *228 to reactivate your phone to your verizon aact after successful sbf.. if activation not successful, pull battery, reboot, and dial *228 again.. will activate.

Have you tried these instructions??

Another thing I learned is that usually if you don't select all options from the device status options and allow the drivers to install for them RDS has issues seeing device because is appears if these drivers are not installed it cant communicate to device...

Since I use SDK and install the drivers to use it RDS works fine but one rime I tried to run SBF from a device I did not setup my usual way it wouldn't read phone .

I guess each device sbf is different because anytime I SBF'd myself the *228 would come up automatically and I would just have to hit send. Thats good to know

This may be because the user didn't do the final hard reset to remove all left over data after sbf, if they hard reset you will get this option.
