Help with root?

So I'm getting sick of waiting for ICS. I really am thinking about rooting. Can you please give me the pros and cons? I am very tech savvy but I don't really know what to do. Can anyone give me any good tips? Should I do it? I would love some step by step instructions. I just want Vanilla ICS! but I don't want my camera to not work? Please help.
