So i've been posting on here about keeping my note 5 instead of getting the note 8..... Wellllllll last night it got a little we golfing (not much water at all!). The carts had been sprayed out and I put my phone in the front cubby area. Unbeknownst to me there was some water in there an a while later I grabbed my phone and saw that it was wet but not much. I didn't think anything about it but when I got done golfing and used it. The keyboard was not working properly (letters were not matching up) and the power button was not turning my phone off! It eventually did but there is obviously something wrong going on. I took it home and took the spen out and found that it was a little wet so it appears this is how the water got in. I shook it out the best I could and a couple tiny bits of water came out. I kept the pen out and placed it in rice...... I'm freaking out guys what can i do?? I have no insurance and it isn't paid off yet..... FML. The screen appears to be working fine. How long should I keep in in the rice or what are better ways of salvaging it? I don't wanna lose this phone.

1. Turn the device back off ASAP.
2. Remove SIM card tray and dry SIM card with soft cloth
3. Remove S-pen.
4. Place device in dehumidifying bag or environment
5. Wait a day or two and power on the device

Turning on a device with water/moisture inside is the quickest way to short things out. In this case, it's best to have a backup phone (or borrow one) while your Note 5 dries.

If it still doesn't work properly, factory reset and go from there. Sending it off to a reputable repair company to fix water damage is your last resort. Even then, components could prematurely burn out as soon as you get it back.

Good luck

Paper clips work well to pop the SIM tray out as well. Food dehydrators work well for drying a phone if you have one, I know few people do but it's actually what we used in a repair shop to dry out water damaged phones.

You can get it out of the rice right about now since it’s nothing more than a myth.

The only way I can think of to salvage it, would be to get it serviced by a 3rd party to get some work done on the motherboard. But even then, they can’t guarantee results and it ends up being costly.

It's still in the rice, two days now. I think I'm going to leave it in for a couple more and then see. What worries me is that the light on the back next to the camera has been on continuously but not bright like a flash, kind of hard to explain. Worst case I'm hoping I can at least pull all the data off using smart sync.

Seems like a food dehydrator would get pretty hot, it seems like mine does when I use it.

See my message below about this method.

Going to try my phone today for the first time since putting it in rice last Wednesday. Fingers crossed it freaking works..... Worst case scenario if it does not work what are my chances of being able to retrieve all the data that is on my phone? That is what I am worried about the most.

I'm going to wait till this evening to pull it out of the day, I will give an update when I do. Everyone wish me luck please!!!

Well sir............I just powered it up.............AND EVERYTHING WORKS PERFECTLY!!!!!!!!! The first thing I did is hook it up to smart switch and it's backing up at this moment just in case it goes crazy at some point. I couldn't be happier right now! My week has been crap and I needed something to go right.
