Ok so far the only root that works for my old ZTE N817 phone is Kingoroot. It actually roots it with ease. After I rooted the phone however , I noticed that only certain apps recognize the phone as being rooted. And then when the phone rebooted itself it lost the root completely and made me plug my phone back in my pc and root all over again. My phone loses the root every reboot and its getting so frustrating! Ive seen where online it says I have too unlock my bootloader which I cannot find. Ive tried to do the method switching it to SUPERUS , which doesn't go through. I have all ROM toolbox, ROM MANAGER....Some one please help me keep this root permanently!!!! Thank you!!

If your bootloader was locked you couldn't root at all. Although I have a different phone, I had the same issue. Steps taken.
Download:
Terminal emulator
SuperSu app
"replace_kingroot_with_supersu_zip
Download zip and install on sd card. Decompress here then open and find mrw file. Move this file to internal storage.
Open emulator, and type "su" (no quotes), enter
Then type "sh sdcard/mrw/root.sh"
(Make sure to space between sh and sdcard...), enter
Initially you will get an error message, ignore.
SuperSu should ask for root access, approve
When asked about binary update select "normal"
This may take up to couple minutes.
A good test if working is download Flashfire app by chainfire and run (will only accept SuperSu or Magist superuser)

Lemme know if this works, if not we'll try other routes.
