Hi all, I'm new here, please advise if this is in a wrong section. Here's the deal:

I use a flip phone for day to day and I have an LTE tablet with a data and texting plan. My tablet has its own phone number that I can text to. I recently moved my sim card from my old tablet, a sonimtech rs80 to the new tab active 4 pro. The data worked immediately. However, wheneverI try to open messages (google) it asks me enable 'call and text from other devices' in my settings menu and provides a QR code. On my old tablet, there was an option to enable the local sim card or pair and it functioned as normal when local card was enabled.

However there is no such option on the tab active. There is only a pair with other device option or a use without logging in option that for some reason just leads in a loop back to the QR screen asking to pair.

The samsung messages app simply won't send messages, it puts up an error message saying to enable call and text from other devices.

I've spent almost 2 days trying to figure this out, swapping sim cards back, rebooting, updating and uninstalling updates to no avail. I can't understand how I'm supposed to pair it to another device when my rs80 doesn't have a sim anymore and my flip can't take pics hardly. If anyone could help that would be great. Thank you in advance.

Do you have the Galaxy Tab Active 4 Pro with 5G, or only 4G LTE?

Also, which carrier are you on? I just want to make sure your tablet supports the carrier's bands. You may also want to speak to your carrier's customer service about this, in case they need to activate something on their side.

I'm used to LTE-enabled tablets only being able to use the SIM for data rather than telephony (which would include SMS), but clearly you were able to do it with your older tablet. I think it's still worth asking Bell Canada about it.

The are two things I haven't tried yet, which I will try today:

downloading the same version of the app that's on my old tablet and seeing if it will work that way

And putting the sim back in my old one, and doing the pair devices option that it's asking for. Then try moving it back once I've paired them

Update: swapped sim card back. Old tab works as normal, except for the dead screen (hence the new one). Tried to pair with the qr code as prompted and ended up in a loop through help screens and back to the qr code again

And both apps appear to be the same version save for the last few characters being RC00.phone_dynamic on the old, and RC00.phone_samsung_dynamic on the new. Which seems reasonable given they are different manufacturers.

I guess it's a stop at the bell store tomorrow.
