Hep installing Android SDK manager

I am trying to install the Android SDK manager and have hit a snag.

I am using the instructions on Rootzwiki

I downloaded and installed to the default directory (c:\users\main\appdata\local\android\android-sdk )

The problem I am having is when I have to set the Enviornmental variables. I did what the wiki said and added ;C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\tools\;C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools\

when i went into CMD and typed adb start-server it did not recognize the command.

I tried adding the above default directory also and it still did not work.

Am I missing something here? I also cannot find the folder that the SDK manger installed the files.

I found the files in C:\Users\MAIN\AppData\Local\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools abd if i click on adb it opens a cmd promp and runs without error.

How can I add this so it will run from any directory? Thanks

It can be tricky to get that to work on Windows... personally I quit trying and would just use them from the platform-tools directory. As a shortcut, you could create a folder on your desktop and copy the adb and fastboot files to it, so that you can easily go in there and open a command prompt when you need to use them as well (to open a command prompt in the directory, hold shift and right click in the folder then click 'Open command window here'). Any files you need to push or use over adb or fastboot you just need to place in the directory first. Hope that helps!

So if i just copy whatever files i want to flash into the folder that has the adb.exe file I would be able to run fastboot from there?

That would be fine. I just wanted to start by flashing clockworkmod recovery without the toolkits.

I would try the roms after. Still gun shy.

Yes your correct, just make sure whatever folder you create with the ADB it also has the fastboot.exe app from the Android SDK " platform-tools " directory included in your folder.

FWIW, I don't have my environment tables set correctly either.. I just do as defmouze described above...

Stupid question, but I thought the adb file was fastboot.

No questions are stupid here

ADB.exe is its own application... Android Debug Bridge (adb) to perform many tasks aside from pushing files to the device it can do much much more.

fastboot.exe is own also... used directly from the bootloader on Nexus devices to flash official factory images (OS/bootloader/recovery/radio)

Anything else.. Just ask.

ok, i just checked and both files are there.

I ran the adb start-server and got no errors so i think i am set to flash clockworkmod recovery.

One more question regarding going back to stock recovery if i have to for some reason. Is that something that can be flashed from the same flashboot program? I see that you can go back to stock when it comes to ROM's etc, but not sure about the recovery. I would like to get OTA updates if there are any in the future.

Oh and if you do unlock, root and start running custom ROMs rest assured any future OTA official updates would be incorporated into your favorite ROM within hours or days of its release so there is usually no need to return to stock unless you really want to....

The CyanogenMod 10M version or the nightly?
