Here's how the Google Store trade works: Not what you think

Asked the finance company working with the Google store as to how the trade in value is apportioned. Unique process to say the least:

The amount is taken off your total balance.

It does NOT change the monthly payment.

Rather, the payments end earlier:

Phone: $829

Monthly payment $35 over 24 months

Trade-in $400 = $35 x 11.5

Pay-off in 24 - 11.5 = 12.5 months

Payments continue for 12.5 months instead of 24.

FYI

Nice - thanks for the info.

The one thing I am wondering about in addition to this is when to send the trade in in. I received a email today that my trade in kit is on the way, but I will not have my new phone for 2 weeks.

I usually upgrade once a year, so I'm cool with it just being shortened. I did the google financing for my first gen Pixel XL, and when I sold my Nexus 6P on Swappa, I just paid the amount I sold it for toward the balance, so my payments are almost finished for that phone. I'll have a one month overlap.

I think I read that they ask that you post it somethig like 5 or 7 days after delivery.......

that's what I intended until I realized I was giving up the credit for the year, which in the end is worth an extra $100. I'd suggest that you either pocket what you get on Swappa OR use that to pay down the Google account. You would still pay your carrier, but at the end of the contract it'd be the same amount as today's payoff. AND you'd get the credit's full value at the same time........

It's why I called the finance company. To see if it would reduce my monthly outlay to go along with the VZW credit, or if I'd be paying the quoted $35 in ADDITION to my monthly VZW charge.

At the end of the year, I'm $100 to the good.......

I'm actually fine with that. The only part I don't like is that I'm already using it to rationalize the funding for next year's upgrade, since there'll just be a 1/2 month payment remaining by the time the 3 XL comes out...

And mine isn't shipping until November 21st. I'm guessing you get the kit, but obviously don't have to send back the phone yet?
