Hero not booting into recovery

So I rooted my Sprint Hero and everything went fine, but when I try to flash a recovery image it says the file isn't found even though I checked the spelling and if I ls my sdcard it shows up.

More importantly though my phone won't boot into recovery mode via the command prompt or the Hboot screen. It just shows me a picture of an exclamation point and a phone laying down, one time it game me some error

E: can't open/cache/command or something like that.

Please help and let me know of any other info I need to give

If the file is there, and it says not found, you're not entering the path correctly. Tell me the steps you use to copy and run it.

The image was on my sdcard I just CDed into it and that worked fine after that I could boot into recovery mode just fine for some reason
