...finally registered here at AC to join in with the crew.
My name is Alan, and I've been an Android fanboi since May 2009. I live in the UK, so my first smartphone was an HTC Magic from Vodafone.
It got upgraded from 1.5 to 1.6, but wasn't going to go any further without rooting it, so come February 2010, I bought a Nexus One, and have been loving it ever since.
I'm growing a little concerned about increasing carrier and OEM "interference" with Android, like crippling side-loading of Apps for new handsets, and worming their own inferior apps on, in preference to better open alternatives.
I was sorry to see the Google direct sales model go, and I just really hope there will continue to be commercially available "dev" phones, that can get their updates directly from Google, and bypass all the carrier crap.
I don't care what the phones look like, function > form in my book.
Anyway - enough of my ranting - happy Androiding all, and bring on the Gingerbread.
