My S7 phone is blocked from any network usage on AT&T. I purchased from a reputable (20,000+) eBay seller 4 months ago. I went to ATT store to add text service, which I didn't have before on my grandfather AT&T plan on Thursday. On Friday, my phone stopped getting any mobile data (may or may not be related to adding the text service. It could be during the process they were looking at the IMEI?? I dont know). I called AT&T and they said my phone is blacklisted and was originally being sold at Best Buy. Not sure what happened, maybe the seller sold Best Buy's stolen phone, maybe he/she reported it lost for insurance money, who knows and it doesn't matter now.
My question is, can I root it or something to change the IMEI so that I wouldn't have to buy a new one? I cannot return it as it was bought 4 months ago on Paypal and not on credit card. If you could provide a technical solution, that would be great! Thank you!
