If this helps, I live in Malaysia.
Lately I've been taking a look at the Samsung Galaxy A5 2016 and A9 Pro 2016; it's kind of like picking between them and similar smartphones. I'm currently using a Nokia Lumia 930 and it's feeling a bit cranky lately - failing to save camera pictures, camera lockups, and suddenly shutting down while the battery appears to be well above 30% (and restarts just fine with battery to spare). Not to mention that I'm getting kind of annoyed by the software drought that I'm going to move to an Android smartphone. (I'll keep the 930 around though for mobile game development purposes.)
Mostly just have to make sure it's not a downgrade in the user experience - everything has to be smooth-sailing, if not flagship-level performance. A good ballpark is probably "does it burn up while web browsing for a significant period of time" and "will it run Asphalt 8 without hitching and without degraded quality settings, at a minimum of 1280x720 internal resolution?" No, I'm not interested in any of the Chinese brands, so forget about them.
The A5 and A9 Pro were actually pretty interesting, with some pretty tempting deals on them. The A5 is bundled with a Samsung flip cover and a 32 GB Samsung EVO microSD card. The A9 Pro is bundled with a 64 GB Samsung EVO+ microSD card. Both phones come with 2 years of warranty (extended by 1 year) instead of the normal 1.
Would a Snapdragon 615/Exynos 7580 on the A5 be a hindrance compared to a Snapdragon 800 on Windows 10 compared to a Snapdragon 652 on the A9 Pro? (I'm pretty sure there's no Exynos variant of the A9 Pro... is there?) Same for the battery life comparison. Size comparison, too.
Don't worry too much about the display or the cameras; I've demoed both of them in person.
The phones are priced RM 1399 and 1999 respectively including bundled items.
