Hidden NFC?

According to a thread by Ry in the G⁴ Play forum, a the g4 play allegedly has a removable battery and NFC. Perhaps Moto has disabled NFC in the g4 play, which, however unlikely is always a possibility. Perhaps even unorthodoxly replacing the battery with one with NFC could enable Android Pay? Again unlikely as the software would not recognise the NFC chip but, optimism, am I right?

I tried installing android pay via apk and got this. Not surprising of course, but for the sake of experimentation I installed it.

NFC is listed as enabled on the spec list of the G4 Play on the UK Moto site, so it has NFC.

I mean Plus here. It's strange to me they'd put it in the budget model but not the high(er) end one.
