hiding app button, etc. on main tablet screen

When I have the tablet in landscape mode, with no apps open, toward the bottom of the screen is an app button (circle with dots in it) and five dots in a row which indicate which screen I have scrolled to.

Is there any way to hide these on this main screen? I'd like to just have my wallpaper showing if possible.

You typically can't do that with the stock launcher. It's possible with 3rd party launchers, like Nova Launcher.
