"Ang Liwanag Mo"
("Your Light")

This is a parol, a star-shaped lantern popular in the Philippines. This one was decorated by high school students, inspired by the relief efforts for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan, or "Yolanda", as it was known locally, urging its students to help out. The text the mannequin in uniform reads, "2long tyo", which is shorthand for "Tulong tayo!". That means, "Let's help!" in English. This parol is highly symbolic, as its bright lights symbolize the light one brings to the darkened lives of the victims of Haiyan when he offers help. For me, this captures the spirit of Christmas, which is the spirit of giving.
