Home button bar

My S8 randomly stopped allowing me to keep that home button bar always visible. It keeps hiding itself for some reason even when I click the dot to show it.

Double-Tap the dot. They changed it so that it would not inadvertently be changed

Are you using Nova by any chance? They have an option to hide nav bar that you may have inadvertently turned on. It hides nav bar even on home screen.
