Home screen icons disappearing...

Okay, this is kind of getting annoying... It's happened three times now and for no obvious rhyme or reason.

Sometimes half of all my icons on my home screens will vanish. I don't know why. They're arbitrary and there doesn't seem to be any knowing when it will happen. It started after the Gingerbread update (I'm running the official) and I haven't rooted yet. I'm actually tempted to just go back to Froyo after this.

What has happened is, after:

1. An app update
2. Connecting my DX to my computer
3. A battery pull

something close to half of all my apps that are on all seven of my homescreens are gone. They just disappear. I end up having to re-arrange everything every time this happens.

Does anyone know what this is or how to fix it?

Are these apps installed to the internal storage or to the card?

Both. Most are in my SD card, but a couple are in internal storage. They're still in my application dock, but they fall off my home screens for some reason.

ADMINISTRATOR, please help the users resolve why icons disappear after a reboot. :'(
