Home Screen Question

Is there a way to lock the bottom row of app icons on the home screen? I have had the Motorola G Power for just under a year, and it has the latest Android Updates. For the past few weeks or so, I have found that if I open an app, that app's icon shows in the middle of the bottom row of icons. If I open another app, that app's icon appears in the middle of the bottom row of icons. This happens every time an app is opened, and to be honest it's very annoying.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I think it's standard on Motorola phones. It happens to me too. It does the same when I hit the down square box and it happens when I hit the round circle at the bottom of the phone. The app drawer opens. This time it is at the top of my phone

Welcome to Android Central! Are you using the stock launcher, or a 3rd party launcher? Can you show us a screenshot of what you see? http://forums.androidcentral.com/ge...ide-how-post-screenshots-android-central.html

Thank you for all the replies. I apologize for taking so long with adding my own reply.
The launcher that I am using, s the original stock launcher. I shall try to add the screenshot to this post, for you to have a look. I have cropped off some of the screenshot, but you should be able to see enough. If not, please let me know.

Very odd. I can't understand how the launcher can switch the shortcut position after opening an app.

That screenshot also looks pretty cramped for the stock Moto launcher, don't you think?

Mmmmm, now that you mention it ... It definitely looks very cramped and the up arrow for the app drawer looks too big for Moto stock launcher. The two-lines app names shouldn't be so close to the row below and the icon pack is not the system one.

OP, which Android version are you running? Are you using any icon pack or any other kind of homescreen customisation?

Yeah, my wife's Moto G6 doesn't look like that, and her home screen icons never change. She's running Android 9, stock launcher.

Once again many thanks for all the help and suggestions. I am using the stock launcher with no icon packs installed, and the Android version is 11. The attached screenshot shows the Safe Mode home screen.

What about this? Long press an empty spot in your home screen - Home Settings - Suggestions - toggle Suggested Apps off. This will probably clear all the bottom icons and you'll need to add them back manually.

So it seems like there's no way of changing this back. I don't see the logic in this, when we can have a home screen full of the apps/widgets that we most frequently use!
Anyway, thanks for all your help and time that you've all put into this.
Have you tried switching the App Suggestions off as I posted above? That should work.
