honestly, will you get another smartphone after your fascinate 18 months is up?

r u kidding, new technology for free? Well... with a 2 year contract, but hey Verizon is the best carrier in our little town, so why not. I’m thinking that by May 2012 there’s gotta be something superior to the Fascinate out there, but it’s such a great phone I may have to go with Samsung again! NO iPHONE! When I look at my Verizon account online now there’s a button to click right below my “upgrade now” to order an iPhone 4, sad.

In 18 months I'm sure there will be some really cool new phones available on Verizon, and I'm sure I'll be tempted to adopt one as my new device.

I'm also sure that Verizon will load them all up with greedware that introduces bugs and interferes with performance and core functionalities (except the iPhone, of course).

Honestly I'm not sure what I will do. With DL30 I finally have a phone that works right. I have fantastic battery life, no greedware and only one or two noticeable bugs. After two frustrating maintenance releases it finally took rooting and installing a leaked OS to get this phone working the way it was meant to work. I am seriously considering switching to another carrier and another phone manufacturer when the time comes, although I admit it's hard to blame Samsung for all the issues this phone had.

We'll see.

I'm thinking about the Thunderbolt, but I'm going to wait until it's been out for a bit first before making a decision. I want to see what sort of major issues (if any) people are reporting with it before I run out and drop a bunch of money on it. Aside from that, I'm still quite satisfied with my Fascinate.

No Chris. You aren't allowed to get the Thunderbolt and abandon the support of the Fascinate forum. No, no, no! :p

LOL. Don't worry guys, even if I do end up caving in and getting the Tbolt, I'm still probably going to be keeping my Fascinate. I'll still be around the Fascinate forums ;)

Chirs. What made you decided on the fascinate over the Droid X and Dinc? I am up for a new phone and will go with the best and least expensive 3G phone in March. Leaning toward the Fascniate.

Mostly the screen and the form factor. I'm not a huge fan of the Droid X's form factor (the bump on the top kind of bothers me) and the Fascinate has an absolutely gorgeous SAMOLED screen. The DInc is also just too small for me. I don't think I could go back to a screen size less than 4".

I'm all about the SAMOLED and the puzzle lock or something like it honestly. Shape is really nice, but the other two are my big ones.

As of now, I'm leaning towards Thunderbolt but ....I don't know what I'll go for ...I'm due for upgrade in september so I don't even have to wait for 18 months to be over.

$137 for unlimited talk, text and data on Verizon. Alot, yes. Worth it, to me, yes.

My fascinate is my only line. I send over 200 texts per month. I use over 2gb of data a month. I need drop dead reliable national coverage. I use it for work as well.

Going forward I will always have a smartphone with an unlimited plan, likely on Verizon.

18 months from now depends on 4g coverage and whether unlimited data still exists. I may wait to upgrade, I may not.

8,533 text messages this month.
30GB of data.
687 minutes.

:D

I will upgrade once I am able to and only if 4G is in my area at that time. I see no reason to buy another 3G phone nor do I see a reason to get a 4G phone that does not have the network to make it worth the cost. I am likely to get the Thunderbolt if the reviews are good.

Did you just completely contradict yourself? If you are going to be waiting a while for 4g coverage, the thunderbolt will be outdone by a number of phones...

I still love my Fascinate, but definitely looking at 4G phones. The screen on the Fascinate is fabulous and hard to give up though.

The Thunderbolt is calling my name, but I'd really like a 4G version of the Fascinate, if I can make myself wait. I'm not good at waiting for my upgrade when new phones start arriving.

I was basing that on the hopes that 4G would be in my area before phones better than the Thunderbolt come out. But then again I guess this is one of those "wait and see" things.

im leaning towards no right now, and i love the fascinate.

what i dont love is paying 80 bucks a month when i use less then 200 minutes a month. and what I dont like is being charged the max price for data when i use less then a gig a month.

if verizon can offer me a pay as you go type plan, with a tiered data plan, im in, lets play.

if not, i could see myself going back to prepaid pay as you go completely.

I see where you are coming from. Just about everyone I text or talk to has Verizon so everything is "in network" to me. When I got my Fascinate, I did spring for the $15 data instead of unlimited. It keeps me a little less connected... I had to get Juice Defender to control data usage when I'm not on wifi. Its only 150 megs but I haven't used half of it. It does tick me off that I have unlimited txt and pix messaging yet with this phone- pix messaging requires usage of data...

Prior to getting my Fascinate in December, I used my iPod for just about everything on wifi. I'm glad I didn't wait for the iPhone. But I do love my smartphone.

I'm a web developer/designer/pro photographer so having this phone helps me out in a lot of situations and... I'm also not into carrying around a backpack to carry tons of separate items. I can just bring my phone and do work wherever - whenever.

+1.

Well a "gateway timeout" just wiped out all the reasons I will get another smart phone.

So I'll simply say that I have 92 apps installed. From AAA to XDA and YouTube and everything in between. And not one is a game. I'd have more if I still traveled for work.

I get/make maybe 30 calls a month, 100-200 texts, and I dunno, maybe 50 emails.

I'd get another one just for a the portable Pandora streaming.

Edit to add: Swype is fun to use.
