Honor 8: First Impressions

I am surprised! Not sure about the 6s+ but it is better than the SE. At work, I always put my iPhone in the same place as I put all of my phones. When I put it there, the iPhone gives up on WiFi every time. This phone on the other hand, takes longer to.
Strong radios are awesome. It's something that isn't a "spec", but something that works well on the internet in limited service situations is much appreciated

Ahh it's been 2+ days and I already have some small scratches on the back. You have to put it into the light to see them though. I think it's the fault of my desk because these are only on some edges, and not on every edge. This is my first glass phone so you can take this impression with a grain of salt.

I am assuming that you are going bare back? If you are worried about back scratches, and wanted to go naked then you can put a rear glass protector on.

Yep, I am. Since I am such a chronic phone switcher (let's just say that I have had at least one new phone to try every month; I'm aware this is the 9th month of the year, but it still applies), I don't like to buy accessories unless I know that I will keep the phone. Learned this the hard way, months back.

The problem is resell.. Scratches hurt resell, so a cheap case and screen protector might make up for it.

I too use a lot of phones and when I don't get a case and screen protector, then the phone tends to get some minor damage and can't be resold as mint

That's very true. I agree with you about that. I don't really resell phones, I just buy from retailers that I can return to with little penalty. I only sell if I must, not a fan of the whole process.

I don't know if I'm one for phones with glass backs, really hoping that my case will come in soon. Regardless, still liking this phone a lot.

Edit: Totally forgot about the 3 month free glass replacement thing. I can always do that if I don't like the scratches and then have it live in a case from then on.

Does sound like I may make use of that minimalist case that was included with the preorder. We'll see I guess. I'm usually pretty careful with my devices. I've had pretty much every phone I've owned naked, and knock on wood, never broken a screen. Though I know with the 920 it was more likely to leave a crater than get damaged.

How's the screen brightness? I know some people were saying it's good, and some of the reviews seemed critical of it.

You should. I preordered with a case, but it still hasn't come in yet to B&H, so I'm on my own for now. In that case,I think that you would be fine. Just be careful when it comes to putting it on tables/desks without some kind of cushion. Like you, I have never broken a screen and I have no intentions on doing so. These little scratches are silly.

The auto screen brightness is very random sometimes, it can really go from high(not blinding, just somewhere around 60%) to 20%. I don't usually set it to high, but so far, it's been alright.

That auto brightness thing would annoy me to no end . but hopefully it is something that can be fixed by a software update

I agree. Hopefully it will be. The fact that it is random is a slight annoyance, but I haven't been in a situation where the brightness was too much or too little for the lighting situation. I still use auto anyway.

That's odd.

I have had the phone for 24 hours now and I love it. The sim tray is a dual sim tray or just and SD card and sim (your choice). The phone feels great in the hands however it can be slippery so I would suggest getting a case ASAP. The UI is great I have not experienced any lag and scrolling Is very fluid. My only is is that the icons on the Notification bar are small but I can live with it. Fast charging for this phone only works with the stock charger which is a little disappointing.

You can hack the sim/sd card so both can be used, if you needed both

Honor 8 very fast no hesitations at all. Great phone but like every phone some things need updating disabling locksreen security back to NONE without resetting phone and moving apps to SD card not available
