While many bemoan the battery manager of EMUI, it can provide some excellent features.

1: Turn off screen, turn off apps
For example, do you really want Facebook to run when you have your phone turned off? While some find the power-saving tool to be a bit overbearing, turning off background apps really helped my battery life spike from just a few hours to a full 1.5 days of usage.

2. Ultra Power Saving Mode
The power-saving mode of EMUI is quite good, and while it is not yet comparable to the Samsung Ultra Power Saving Mode, it is getting close. In situations where I needed my smartphone to serve its main purpose (though some would argue otherwise), calling and texting, Ultra Power Saving Mode got me through three days of light usage.

3: High resource usage? You're fired!
Sounding like a no-nonsense boss, EMUI alerts you when apps consume a large amount of power. However, you have the final say whether to close apps, so your intense gaming session can go on!

More is to come with EMUI 5, so stay tuned as this thread will be updated with the latest news about EMUi in general. Also, feel free to ask me questions about the Honor 8, Honor 5X, EMUI, Huawei, or Android in general. Happy Androiding!

There's an expression... 'a poor craftsman blames his tools'. Having used similar tools in the Honor 5X, don't like how it's restricting things? Modify the configuration.

I really like the level of granularity in there...

Hey Lumi,
One of my biggest gripes about my Note 3, is that if I'm listening to music and a notification comes in, it mutes my music, plays the notification sound then starts the music again.
All the other phones I've had will lower the volume of the music while playing the notification sound then go back to the normal volume of music. Almost like the Note 3 can't handle playing two sounds at once.
How does a phone like the Honor 8 deal with that situation?

Hey, thanks for your question! In my experience, the Honor 8 does and doesn't stop the media audio, depending on the app that I'm using. I find that Google Play Music is more likely to be muted, then restarted, while the stock music app is usually more consistent and ducks out temporarily. I did a bit more research based on your question, and it seems to me that there are a fair number of devices that do the same, while many others do not. My (super cheap) LG Volt ducked out the audio properly, but the Samsung Galaxy s3 did not. I think newer devices should be able to handle notification sounds, but maybe it will be changed in a future update. I'll let you know if any of this changes in the future. Happy Androiding! -Lumi Valo

In your experience with how EMUI works, is it really possible to get about a day and half for a light user? Mainly with the Honor 8, here.

Yes, absolutely. With heavy use, I get about a day of use, so light usage should be a lot less hard on the battery, and if you use a lot of battery management, you may even be able to squeeze two days of usage out of the 8.

The power management software really is awesome, especially when you learn how it works and understand what it's doing. According to Honor testing, normal users should get 1.77 days of usage, and heavy users should get 1.22 days. Yesterday while travling home, I was able to get 5.45 hrs of screen on time :)

Hey Taylor! It's one of your beta testers; great job on the Honor 8! I watched the (buffering) livestream, and you did great! I'm definitely going to buy it.
