Horrible Radio Issues Recently

I don't know what it is, but the last week or so my radio has gone to hell in the handbasket. Where I used to get 2 bars, I get none. The weird thing is, with that situation, that I still seem to have a 4G signal and data appears to work somewhat, but I have issues with texts and phone calls. I've checked the battery cover, and it all seems to be fine (I have an extended battery). Also, places with 4 bars, I now have 2. Places with a bar, I get an "x" over the signal bars.

I just have no clue what could be doing this. I just recently installed 2x battery and am using that instead of Juice Defender - could that be what is causing the issue?

Bare with me, but are you rooted and if so what ROM/RUU and which radio(s)? The 1x (voice) antenna is not in the battery cover. It's internal just under kickstand. Did you uninstall JD before or after installing 2x battery?

Just FYI, the bars have no bearing on your data signal strength so you can have data when you have no bars or vice versa.

No problem, I know more info the bettet. I'm not rooted - I am up to date (mr2). I disabled Juice Defender before turning on 2x battery & uninstalled it later. I didn't know that about the voice antenna - I just got the Seidio Active extended battery case. Could that have anything to do with it?

Thank you for your help.

Did the issues happen after you got the battery case? If so Ive read other places that some of the aftermarket battery doors arent that great being the antenna are in the door. I cant remember where I read it but others have said they had issues too with the contacts not touching very well.

I got the official Verizon battery door - but apparently it seems those contacts aren't to blame.

Nah, thats the case I have and I actually seem to get better reception with it. Unless when you put it on, you knocked the battery door lose and it came out of contact. The antennas are all in the battery door, so you might want to try pulling it off and putting it back on, just to make sure it has good contact.

I have gone through, taken the case & door apart and put it together.

Antennas in door are data only. I was attempting to explain you can see or get to the 1x antenna. And it would work with bAttery door off. The odds you did some to it are slim and none. I think you need to uninstall JD and 2x.... Then load the one you want. Even with JD disabled I think there was a conflict. I have the Covert case and it hasn't degrade my data or voice.

Is there an app that will display bars or something to show strength of data signal? I care much more about data than voice.

I tried to do as you said. Uninstalled all those types of programs and then reinstalled 2x. I still have the radio issues.

It is more like degraded radio... I still get decent radio in some places, but it is lesser bars than before. Not sure what would cause such a thing.

Why don't you just put the original battery and battery door back on and see if your reception gets better? If it does you know its the new battery/door causing the issue........

Hmmm... I wonder if my phone just has a defect... though that wouldn't explain why it occured just recently. I don't want to uninstall any battery saver because even with the extended battery the battery life is pretty poor.

I still do not understand why people think the thunderbolt won't show data with the signal bars because it does. If you enable 3g only in the radio menu it shows your 3g strength in bars. The voice network is disabled on this setting and will show no service but your 3g will show in the bars. I have also been in buildings with no voice coverage but with 3g and have 2 bars of 3g but no voice service so I can guarantee you this phone will show you data signal.

I'm running HTC 2750 and RUU 2.11 of HTC's signed 2.3.4 leak. Battery life is much improved.
