hotspot issue

I got a Galaxy S 3 from T-Mobile and I want to used the hot spot app do I need to root it and if so will this void my warranty. T-Mobile charges $15 per month to use this application that is all ready in the cell.

It is my understanding that any device you root will void the warranty?

I don't know for sure if it will, but that's my understanding. All of the advice I've received is that if you decide to go that route please be sure you're knowledgeable in what you're doing.
