how are the speakers?

Good volume. So, so sound quality.
Still it is clear enough. I wish there were stereo speakers, but I am not sure that with speakers only a couple of inches apart, it would be a great improvement.

it's ok but if it's a deal breaker for you then you should pick a different device (can't advise which one unfortunately) Note 8 isn't bad but I'm sure it's not the best either due to the ip68 certification it can't be

I probably didn't express myself correctly, call quality is excellent and loud speaker itself is OK but not audiophile quality but no phone speakers are, then that is probably one of the FEW weak points of the Note 8

I'm considering the note 8 but speaker quality is important to me...how is music and call quality? Thanks

While it's not stereo the mono speaker is solid and there are ways to increase the volume and quality of sound without accessories. If as you say speaker quality is important then send the audio through a BT speaker or headphones. Not a big deal.

Call quality is better than my Note 4, which was good anyway, speaker seems louder too, I use a Bluetooth speaker or headphones for audio, so speaker quality is never going to be an issue with me, I'm very happy with the sound/speaker setup.

Being a musician and somewhat of an audiophile this device has one of the worst speakers I've seen on a device in a long time. VERY thin and tinny sounding. so bad that it hurts my ears to listen to human voices on it. I end up carrying the included headphones around so that I don't have to listen to anything play on the speaker besides notifications. The speaker is great for notifications as it is so annoying sounding you definitely want to grab the device to dismiss the sound! haha

I think the Motorola line of phones with the speaker mod is hard to beat if that is what you are looking for in a phone. The Pixel 2 is decent.
The speaker in my Note 8 is probably the least important reason I purchas ed this phone.
Don't think any speaker in the confinement of a phone can offer the sound quality of all the available bt devices.

Call quality has been good/excellent... Clear. Haven't played music on it so can't say. But IMO I feel the speakers are weak.

Just this morning I'm lounging the clubhouse pool area and tried to watch a video on Netflix... No people to make noise but it still had a hard time competing with light surrounding background noise like water from fountain and was thinking sucks to have one of the best screens available on a phone and the speakers are weak to enjoy in a relatively quiet area.

They should have put an second speaker at top a la iPhone. The sound on my wife's X is loud and clear with a nice albeit smaller screen.

I'm not one for wired headphones so this morning made me think I'll have to consider finding some Bluetooth set.

Seems loud enough to me - just not good quality of the sound for music. The volume on calls is better than my Sony, which was always a bit quiet.

Lol, speakers on any device will never be audiophile quality. Cmon people. If you just want loud and clear enough speakers then get the Pixel 2, the Razer phone or iPhone X. All have stereo speakers.

Couldn't agree more. These speakers are not for music. In fact I'd argue that there isn't a huge incentive for manufacturers to include good speakers on a flagship phone. Because accessories. Rather have better BT, i.e. aptX.

These seem to be getting good reviews, if you like the style and want excellent call quality with out loud music listening.

Or this if you want cheaper and more compact

I just find it funny that most Android flagships record video with stereo sound but plays it in mono, while iphones record in mono and play it in stereo. Lol.

But yeah, Samsung speakers seemed to have never had music in mind.
