How Best Buy replaces Droid DNA

My Droid DNA recently had a hardware failure resulting in the wifi antenna dropping the wifi connection if the phone was turned to the right hand side with the volume rocker facing the ceiling of a room. I had the Droid DNA insured through Best Buy when I bought it. Best Buy took my phone and sent it off for repairs. I was called today and told my DNA could not be repaired, so I needed to come to the Best Buy and they would give me a comparable phone of my choice. The problem is that the Droid DNA is on back order and they do not expect to ever obtain any more units because the HTC One is being released--which is the major problem.

If the HTC One is not coming to Verizon, and I can't obtain a new Droid DNA through Best Buy, what the heck am I supposed to do about obtaining a "comparable" smartphone of my choice?

I literally have no ideas as to what I should do. I do not want a Galaxy S4 because the body is entirely made of plastic and completely lacks the premium feel of a high end smartphone.

I am at a loss, if I pick any other phone from Verizon, it will literally be slower than the DNA, it will have less RAM, and the screen will be severely lacking. I will be stuck with a phone I do not want for two years and I will feel like I got ripped off.

Anyone have an idea about what to do? The phone has to come from Best Buy in the United States.

My reply would be: I bought a DNA, I want a DNA, get me a DNA or give me ALL my money back. Period.

The 10 closest stores to me (Iowa) all have it in stock available for pickup today. I'd have them expand their search and have one of the other stores ship it to them. Them not having a comparable model is ridiculous.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will see if they can raid another store's stock.

Also, I can't ask for a return because I signed a two year contract with Verizon again and I will not be allowed to break it.

I am not happy. I really liked my DNA.

I'm assuming you're outside the 14 days? If so, you might want to go through warranty via Verizon or Assurian if you bought the insurance.

Yes, I am outside of the 14 days. The phone is insured through Best Buy. They have determined that the phone can't be repaired and since the DNA is on back order because of the HTC One, they cannot just hand me a new DNA in my local store.

I am going to head over to the Best Buy after I am done with my court cases his morning. I am hoping they can take one from another store like the suggestion from a person who posted a response above you.

Since it is still under the Verizon warranty as well, call Verizon & they will replace it.

I feel for you man, it really sucks when this happens, and the DNA truly is an awesome phone. If it comes down to it, check out this link:
Verizon CEO Says He Will Consider Dropping Traditional Cell Phone Contracts, Like T-Mobile

I would push this on Verizon so much. Just tell them the CEO said he would drop contracts if customers want it. I am a customer, and I want it. You of all people have legitimate reasons for dropping. Of course, this is if you cannot manage to get a DNA from Best Buy. I would really like to see Verizon act on this, you might even be on the news! haha.

Best Buy came through and had a DNA sent over from another store. I am all set with my brand new Droid DNA.

Thanks for all of the suggestions!

That is great news bud. I too purchased mine through BB along with their insurance. I am going today because what I thought was a bubble on the screen protector is actually a block of dead pixels. I mean a huge block. I live in a somewhat "remote" area so hopefully they will have it in stock. Like you I am not interested in the S4 and the S3...uhm. No.

Yeah, the Galaxy S3 or even S4 just don't appeal to me. Best Buy actually gave me the option to use a loaner phone until the new Galaxy S4 came out and they would allow me to have that without paying anything extra. After handling the functioning demo models of the S4 at the store, I was thoroughly unimpressed by the look and feel of the S4. I was certainly in the minority, though; people were crowded around the S4 and really liking it.

Have you taken your DNA to be replaced yet? I hope they can give you a new one very quickly.

My new DNA is locked, cocked, and ready to rock. It took about five hours to get it back to the way I had it, but it was completely worth it.

I was worried that I was going to get stuck with an iPhone 5, which would have sucked. I had an iPhone 4 for two years and switched to the DNA, so going from a DNA to an iPhone 5 would really just be going back to the phone I previously had, which would have meant that I shelled out $150.00 for nothing.

Hey bud, yeah I went by there on Friday and at first they thought they were out but they had just received a shipment and luckily they there was 1 in there. Brand new! I really don't think I will be buying through Verizon any longer. I know that with VZ for an exchange even during the first 15 days will send you a refurb for a faulty return. I don't think that is fair. I too ended up spending about 5 hours getting it back to where I had it, but totally worth it.

I was going through this forum and noticed that there are not a whole lot of complaints regarding this phone. A few issues here and there but nothing major. Glad I could get my DNA!

That is great news. Yeah, there have been a number of complaints about the phone, but both of my DNA's were perfect. My first one did not have a problem until I dropped it onto concrete. The phone did not even get a scratch on it despite landing face down on the glass. The wifi antenna inside must have been damaged from the fall, which caused my whole problem of needing a replacement. Everything worked great on the phone after the fall except the wifi which would drop off anytime I turned the phone to the side where the volume rocker was facing the ceiling. This phone has been great and is a major step-up from my iPhone.

Good luck with your new DNA.
