How can I automatically disconnect WiFi hotspot when I get home

I have a 4G phone on a good plan and a 4G tablet with a SIM on a not so good plan. When I am out I want to tether the tablet to the phone to take advantage of the cheaper data. Problem is I forget to turn the hotspot off when I get back home. Is there any way I can automatically turn off the hotspot when I get home?

I have AutomateIT app so I thought of using the GPS location as a trigger to turn off the hotspot but GPS is innacurate inside my house with a metal roof and it will force the phone to use more power. I also thought of getting a bluetooth device at home and using connection to that as a trigger to turn off the hotspot but don't know what bluetooth device I could use that won't interfere with normal phone operation at home.

Any suggestions welcome.

Does your phone have NFC? You could use an NFC "tag" someplace in your house to trigger the hotspot on/off when you tap it.

I had your exact same problem. I solved it using a Wifi Prioritizer app. When I'm within range of my home wifi, a scheduled task automatically ensures my device is connected to the preferred SSID and not my hotspot.

Sorry it took so long to reply.

I have an older phone with no provision for an NFC Tag but that doesn't really fill my needs. My concern is that I will forget to turn off my WiFi hotspot when I get home leaving my phone and tethered tablet both using mobile instead of WiFi data. For the same reason the priority software only fixes part of the problem. It would stop the tablet from continuing to use the phone hotspot but would not stop the phone from using mobile data.

I am now experimenting with GPS to see if it will suffice. So far it seems to be working. I have used AutomateIT to turn the Hotspot off and enable WiFi on the phone when I am 100 metres from home . Once the Hotspot on the phone is off the tablet is forced to link to the home network even without the need for prioritizing. All I need to do then is set the tablet to turn mobile data off when WiFi is on. That will force me to enable Mobile data on the tablet only when I really need it.

All this is ok except that it will probably drain the battery on the phone faster because of the GPS issue.
