How can i change what my Galaxy Note 8 gallery displays?

I swear i used to be able to upload pics/videos to google pics, then in that app i'd 'free up space' and it'd then remove the backed-up pics/videos fromthe phone's gallery view - but now the phone's gallery displays EVERYTHING... i can't figure out how to turn this off and only see what's saved on the actual phone!?

Do you have the unlocked version? If so, it may be because you can back up to Samsung Cloud. Samsung's Image Gallery app doesn't connect to Google Photos.

Gallery > Settings > Toggle Samsung Cloud switch to off position.
