How can i clear a notification and still keep the badge icon on the app

Everytime I have a notification on my phone / tablet I clear it to mute the sound but the badge icon disappears as well and I end up forgetting to check it, is there any way I can clear a notification from the drop down menu but still keep the badge icon on the app?

Welcome to Android Central! The notification in the status bar and the unread badge are tied together, so if you dismiss a notification, the badge disappears. Why not just set the notification to silent? Or are you saying the notification tone keeps sounding until you clear it? That shouldn't happen, unless you have a very long notification tone set, or unless your phone has a Notification Reminders option in the Accessibility menu.
