Question Verizon is switching from message+ to google messages. . .notification sound help!

Today I got a message in the message+ app that verizon is shutting it down and made it easy to switch to google messages so I did. I have a custom ringtone for message notification, one I made myself and have been using on message+. But I can't find a way to change the notification sound on google messages! The little meteor ding doesn't catch my attention at all but I can't find any way to switch it to anything else, let alone my custom sound. I've already missed messages. I checked settings in the app and from the settings menu. I don't see any option that allows the notification for google messages to be changed . .. just allow or silent. I have the option of another message app that came installed on the phone. I've tried it and wasn't impressed.
I may as well ask now . . . does google messages allow any customization? Regardless, the sound notification will be the reason I keep or abandon google messages. Please tell me if it is possible to change the sound notification on google messages and if so, how to access changing the notification sound .

No it's on the main menu under bubble not in advanced in the goggle app settings

ya still confuse go back to page 2 where berry bubbles was talk to linda showing those screenshots back on oct 3rd<-again i don't know if that only works android 14 and high and that why not seeing those things or what meh

well i did go back and look at page 2 and person was talking about seeing it on s22 so perhaps it doesn't exist android 13

underneath word notifications won't appear as pop up if show as a pop up is turn of in notification category configure in message<-i don't see or default settings and other spam notification i don't see that i guess because haven't got notify spam yet?

Try this:

Go into settings, notifications, advanced settings, then check if manage notification categories for each app is toggled on. If not, switch it on, then go back & check if the notification categories option is now showing in the Google Messages app.<-i assumed android 13 ain't see that and can't figure out due to that pic showing that only in android 14 i guess

on a side note when you got automatic previews turn on and you have it either show all previews or show only web link previews when somebody post a link and it suppose to show is it me or it ain't working i go back samsung text app and i can see links amazon pics but on google message not showing guess glitch or something

i'm still not to crazy about being in here give it few days i may just go into textra am not sure i should force stop samsung message instead letting it run can't disable or uninstall btw

hey i just went into google message and i can't find this is this only folks on android 14 or will i be able to see this android 13 i'm confused

also is it a know issue that despite i have automatically previews show all previews i'm not seeing pics in links if i switch back to samsung message app its there

really am not a fan of being forced into this don't think i want this btw surely somebody will help me out meh

I was driving all day & wasn't able to be online.

Samsung changed the notification categories setting in UI 6.1, if I remember correctly. That's what you're looking at in my screenshot.

I think you are on UI 5, so it won't look like my screenshot.

But as @mustang7757, that setting is not in the Google message app.

Are you worried that you are not receiving notifications when your messages arrive? Did you decide not to try Textra? Did you check into Handscent Next?

Okay I just went back & reread your messages. Let me see if anyone has sent has sent me a link in Google messages.

yeah i just realize it i guess i have text myself and it seems working it just laughable that google pushes so hard to me to go in and what have i found out despite whole family iphone except for me only 2 folks iphone with rcs older brother and youngest daughter i suspect his wife and older daughter not on ios 18

my mom and dad got old iphones so they won't my sister in law chat saying nothing my parents and oldest niece sms if i do myself sms mms

i hate the dark color and blue default so bland i already turn off show gemini button never going to do any emoji stuff nor chatting i don't have alot of folks in my contact to text despite phone contacts and gmail contacts phone numbers so old i need to delete them but i dread it

i basically think google message is funny to me despite not customization it just useless i gave it few more days but i think i might go into textra see if that works oh google message so wanted me to do it from samsung message and finding out only 2 folks has rcs on iphone what a joke

do you think this is a waste of time since not going to do much group chatting and i'm like a texting man like to post gifs besides pics sometimes not doing voice mess btw i'm worry about hancent next sms talking about subscription but i think due to backup or something like that

The screenshot I posted (in post #85), is what I saw when I first opened the message. The link & part of the picture.

I'm not a big fan of Gemini either!

One of the things that people like about RCS is it has end-to-end encryption. So your data is more secure. If none of the RCS features are important to you, I think it would be worth your time to try Textra & see if it's more to your liking.

yeah i think about it again it just so funny being pushed and finally gave in and finding out wasn't a big deal waste of time in my humble opinon

on a side note all of my samsung message did get converted over after i made google message default app btw

i also don't know if i were in a chat if it will collapse as individual<-i read regedit folks were having issues with that rcs

how come i see my parents oldest niece sms and if text myself its sms msm not sure why sister in law gets nothing
