Disable banners popping up during apps.

Hi there,

I have done a search and find no answer to my problem.

I am using a note 3 on version 4.4.2

I recently updated the facebook app which was a big mistake. Now I am getting these white pop ups on the top of the screen whenever a notification happens instead of the normal text bar along the top. They interrupt my apps and are very annoying. I have turned off banners inside the actual facebook app but they still pop up. Is there anyway of disabling these white things completly and keeping the original led notifications? Such a retarded feature.

Welcome to Android Central! I know you said 4.4.2, but you're sure you're not on Lollipop? That's a typical complaint about Lollipop.

Strange. Does the phone have some kind of Samsung Facebook interface that can aggregate your social media in one place? If so, I wonder if that may be causing these notifications to appear.

Re: Disable banners popping up during apps.

Sorry for late reply. I can't seem to find any samsung facebook interface. Is it possible to downgrade the app to the very first version?

Re: Disable banners popping up during apps.

You'd have to find an apk installer file on the web somewhere, which is always risky, since you can never be sure if it might be carrying malware. And if you downgrade, then it'll constantly bug you to update it.

When those banners appear, what happens if you long-press them? Do you get an option to look at the App Info?

I've been getting these annoying banners as well for a week now on my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android version 4.3 and Samsung Tab 3 version 4.4.3. It wouldn't be so annoying if the banners didn't interfere with what I'm doing. Usually I'm texting or chatting on my devices and my keyboard will disappear for about 5 seconds or so. So annoying!

Y'all can try the HeadsOff app. It works great on Lollipop to stop those. Try the free version and it stops all but your phone call pop-up. If you want more than just the phone call to pop-up, like having a text message pop-up, you have to buy the pro key. I don't remember the price of the pro key off the top of my head, but it was well under $5.

Also I think Facebook did this update to all versions. I had it on the beta version before other people had it for Lollipop.

The idea that I'd have to install -or, worse... pay for(!) an app just to undo a function that I didn't need is preposterous! I'd just as soon go back to MySpace if I have to!

It isn't just Facebook, it happens with everything with Lollipop. Eventually you will end up on Lollipop if you don't skip right to Marshmallow.

It isn't a big deal for the tiny app that works. Also since Facebook has done it for all versions, all developers will be able to do so also.

If it helps any, not all Facebook notifications come up as a pop-up banner. It seems that it's always the same few people's post or whatever they're sharing that pop-up. Also, these certain pop-up banners do not show on the push notifications that I get on my pull-down screen -which I don't mind having. I hope that made sense.

Well, maybe I'll worry about that once I am on lollipop. For now, while on Kitkat, I want top be able to control what notifications I see and where on my phone I want them to be displayed. And like I said earlier, it wouldn't be so bad if it didn't take over my keyboard.

The above app will put them back on the notification panel and status bar. If you aren't getting all FB notifications as pop ups, that is just a glitch that I'm sure FB will fix soon.

Try the free version and see if that stops it. I really like the app and have used it on my Note 4 and my Note 5. After Marshmallow comes out it won't be necessary, Google fixed the issue that allows this. They allowed developers to set the priority of their notifications and most will eventually set them to high priority when they figure it out. Marshmallow let's us choose the priority, which is the way it should be.

I went back and checked. The price on the pro key was $1.99 when I purchased it back in June.

Thank you. I will consider it.

Just try the free one first to make sure it works. It was really done for Lollipop phones because the heads up notifications were standard on Lollipop. Facebook seems to have gotten around it somehow for earlier versions and of they did, others eventually will.
