DROID MAXX by Motorola 16GB shattered glass

upgraded to this phone 3-18-2015. 4-17-2015 dropped phone on carpet and glass shattered. going round and round with Verizon for a replacement phone. researching has turned up numerous complaints on this problem (almost epidemic). Has anyone else had this problem and if so have they come to a satisfactory solution? Verizon wants to sell me another reconditioned phone at a reduced price to compensate. I say I want a do-over so we can order the right phone as if we're renewing the contract. I feel Verizon has misrepresented this phone and its problems since I have found too many issues with screen shattering on this particular phone.

Can you provide links that shows that this is an "epidemic"?

Print out about a dozen separate instances of the problem. speak to the store manager and tell him or her that, legally, 3 is sufficient under the RICO statutes to constitute a fraudulent pattern. And that Verizon well pay your costs if it has to go to court, since you have an overwhelming weight of evidence to prove your case. Two dozen would be even more convincing.

(Evidently Motorola got a bad shipment of glass and decided to use it anyway.)

Just put this DROID MAXX by Motorola 16GB into Google or yahoo search and check for yourself.

Re: DROID MAXX by Motorola 16GB shattered glass

I just got off of he phone with Verizon. I've been on the phone for 3 straight days, while both sides are researching this problem. From what I've seen on my researches (not personally speaking with Motorola) they only offer to fix the problem by replacing the glass for a fee. Verizon finally has the solution that satisfies me. They are sending me a Samsung Galaxy core free to replace the Motorola. I want nothing to do with Motorola as even Verizon verified that Motorola will fix or replace for a fee. $100 plus. I've been with Verizon for 15 plus years and if I'm willing to be patient and spend a few days sometimes, they'll come up with a solution that I can agree with. my best scenario would be to have Motorola recognize and get this phone off the market as unsuspecting customers are spending more money to fix Motorola's mistakes! That's a heck of a way to do business.

Was your phone under warranty when you reported the issue?

Did you have insurance? If so, what were the terms?

Looks like you downgraded. http://www.androidcentral.com/verizon-wireless-sell-entry-level-samsung-galaxy-core-prime-feb-26

If they are using inferior glass that shatters easily (sounds likely) you don't want them to be the ones to replace it. If you can find a relatively cheap but good eBay specialist who will fit it with 'gorilla' glass, do that instead

The best scenario would have been if Motorola hadn't sold itself off in pieces. They used to make the best phones on the market. (My V-551 is still my "go to if the phone might get lost, stolen or broken" phone, and the most indestructible phone ever made, a Nextel, was made by Motorola. I drove over a few of them just to demonstrate how sturdy they were. We use to throw them against a steel wall, soak them in the ocean surf - the only thing that could damage them was enough heat to melt the plastic. Now they make glass that shatters from a dirty look.)

I've dropped by Maxx a handful of times. It makes me sad, because the corners are scuffed up fairly badly, but so far I haven't had any cracks in the glass. Not sure if I've just been lucky that my phone hasn't landed just right to crack, or if there was a bad batch of glass, but I'm still quite happy with my Maxx. I don't think there's any smartphone out there that you couldn't find a dozen cases of broken glass from a Google search.
