How can I fix my Google Play Music sync?

I've been looking for a solution to this problem... and nothing has really worked so far... Playlists are still missing a lot if songs on my device (Nexus 6 that just got the Android M preview installed).

Hopefully, we will see in the near future a fix for this problem.

Figured out a trick to get missing/incomplete playlists to show up on your phone. BUT! I've only found this to work about half the time. Sometimes the entire playlist reappears, sometimes there are still some missing songs.

-Log into the GPM web app.
-Go to Playlists.
-Click the action bar on Playlist XYZ.
-Click "Add playlist to new playlist".
-Name the new playlist something like XYZ1, then confirm.

You should now have a duplicate playlist, XYZ1. I've found that half the time the playlist dupe will show up in full on my G4. Other times there's a few songs missing. :/

I suspect if you do the edit-save trick to your ENTIRE library first, the playlist dupe should yield significantly fewer (if any) missing tracks.

Also if you haven't already, please open a ticket with Google Support so they know this sucks balls is an issue.

arpee,

I tried creating a dupe playlist and it didn't really work.
I have a playlist with 947 songs in it... my device is only showing 236. With the dupe playlist, it's showing 238.

what is the best way to open a ticket with Google support on that?

Ah bummer. Sorry it didn't work.

You can go here to contact someone at Google: https://support.google.com/googleplay

Click Contact Us, then music, and sync. You can chat with them online or have them call you. Warning though, they haven't been the most helpful. I just figured it would be good to let them know multiple users are having this problem.

contacted support by chat... tried all the steps... same problem at the end.
he said will share with co-workers... and keep me in the loop if anything new.

To add, this doesn't happen on the iphone app either. Weird that it is something specific to the android app and the sync process.

I can tell you that it does happen on the iPhone app... I always had this problem on my wife's iPhone... but clearing the app data and re synching always works fine on the iPhone

After a bunch of deleting/undo I noticed that something had redisappeared today. I looked on my wife's iphone and it was there. This time I went straight to the delete/undo to get it back, unlike the first time when I refreshed, deleted me account, resend, etc. (which didn't work on any of my android devices) In retrospect, I should have logged out on my wife's iphone and resunk to see if the stuff was there. I only noticed one artist missing today, last time there where 100's missing. This problem just started for me within the last couple of months and I have been using Google play music since it first came out.

I've created an account here just to chime in on this. I have a Oneplus One, and am also dealing with this issue. I tried the Edit/Save trick, and while it worked, it also SERIOUSLY screwed up a bunch of my recorded/live stuff I guess because the same track names appear on so many live shows. I'm not sure how to fix it yet, beyond deleting dozens of personally recorded shows and re-uploading.

I've opened a ticket with Google, and the rep I spoke to said this is a known issue, and a exceedingly complex one, with no ETA on resolution. I don't know if they're really working on it or what, but if you've not yet opened a ticket with them, PLEASE do. And I can't believe it took me 2 weeks to find other people with this issue! Pressure needs to be put on Google; I pay for this service. I just want to know my uploads are safe. Otherwise, what's the point?

I started having this issue on my OnePlus after wiping the device due to battery drain(which it seemed to solve for now).

But now my play music library (most of which is uploaded) is missing huge chunks (only on the phone, it's fine on the web). I'm closer to 40k tracks and it doesn't seem like a licensing issue, as rarely a full album is missing...

UPDATE:

So after flashing my OPO with the 4.4.2 cyanogen (the version it shipped with) and going to Play music from there it appeared that I had most of my music, and after an hour ALL my tracks are now back. So I guess i'm gonna let it upgrade to Lollipop and see what happens... When i wiped the device I did the reset with Lollipop already on.

Food for thought...

one more UPDATE:

After OTA'ing all the updates music seems to be in place.

Hey guys, just a heads up, I got an email from Google saying the issue has been resolved. The instructions say to clear data and cache on the app then reboot and refresh the library. Haven't given it a try yet but just wanted to let everyone know.

I don't know if it's really resolved that way...
but yesterday I did a factory reset of my device for an other reason... and this morning when I looked at my playlists, everything was there.
the previous factory reset I did a few days/weeks ago did not fix the problem... so this is something new today.

It.... it worked. Did just as you said, and it WORKED. Had to wait a couple minutes for everything to sync up, but it all seems to be there.

I just cross-referenced a dozen playlists on my phone with the playlists on the web app. All matching. Spot-checked a few artists and there doesn't seem to be any incomplete/missing albums.

I think I might cry. I'm going to call my parents and tell them I love them. I love you too, icwhatudidthere. You are good people.

EDIT: Just got the same email from Google Support.

Re: Google Play Music Sync Issues

I used the file manager and went to "audio" I noticed there was as no music in there. Looked at the settings on Google play I couldn't change the directory to make the application look somewhere else. After moving files for about ten minutes in to different folders and checking. I put my music in to the "media" folder and Google bow instantly found the music.

Option number two if you don't want to relocate your music is to download another music player once it has scanned your phone and found the music Google play will find it once that music player has.

Hope this helps.
Cheers Nick.
